Has anybody done or know of a V6 Mitsubishi into a VW. The 3.5lt should be a torquey and fuel efficient motor. They are very narrow and short so wouldn't take up much room- Just thinking of something for the future????????
wot did wes use in his baja? wasnt it mitsubishi?

cc' are too big with the 3.5lt
Wes used a 2.5lt which is the upper limit. The engine also has a high HP per cc, which is great for "bang for bucks" .
the mitsubishi might be good in a kombi...depends on how hard it is to get the loom sorted and that.
BTW, I saw an interesting story on those motors in Zoom mag a while back. They only chucked some forged pistons into one, otherwise standard and
bolted on a T3/4 (?) turbo and it made lots of power, like round 350hp easy. The blokes who were doing it are in Adelaide and are thinking of using
them in offroad buggies.
Seen one in a Pajero with a Yella Terra supercharger on it. It out accelerated a WRX for the first 30 metres or so.
I've often thought either the 3.5 v6 mitsubishi (as found in the local magna) or the 3.0 v6 toyota (as found in local camry and avalon) (ignoring the
subaru range for now), would be a logical alternative for all those guys that have used the decrepit :thumb 3.8 out of the commodore. I'm talking
for kombi conversions here and assuming most guys used the 3.8 outta the VR to VT commodores. Power and torque is pretty much on par. They're found
in local (aust.) family cars, so i imagine there'd be a fair few around at a reasonable prices from wreckers and parts would be easily available just
like the 3.8 outta the commodore, except they run smoother, more fuel efficient, some what lighter?, and although they're no honda vtec, as they're
more happy at slightly higher revs than the 3.8, they'd be more suited to the lower gearing of ya kombi, even though you'd probably want to make the
gearing taller anyway. Also, would they need a radiator as big as the 3.8?
I'm no mechanic or engineer, just a couple of thoughts. In terms of actually converting these engines, i have no idea, so don't know if they'd end
up as being as practical to instal as the 3.8?
Any thoughts?

The Mitsubishi FTO MIVEC puts out 145kw in standard trim, and is a 2.0 ltr V6 with variable timing and will rev to 9000rpm. It was a beautiful high
revving motor - screamed like a Honda when that second lobe kicked in.
You should be able to buy an FTO front end cut - I'd be interested to see if someone has thought of using this combo.
Squiz.....
I thought about the 2lt FTO. Yes they rev, but that's also their downfall. They don't do much below 5000rpm. Since I do offroading I need low end
torque too. The Mazda KLZE I chose has very impressive low end torque, and revs to 8000rpm.
There's a very very custom turbo'd KLZE that's been put into a gemini street car. It's kicking out around 1000HP. The engine is out of the VX
commodore supersport racecar. I saw the engine for sale a while back, for $32000!!!
If you had a kombi you wouldn't bother with the V6's, I'd go straight for a V8 Lexus motor. They are very cheap now, and very strong, plus the
sound, oh the sound...
yes the Lexus V8 is awesome, but I heard they eat kombi boxes for lunch, no matter whether the box is heavily built or not.
be cool if you could get it to work though, then you could add a pair of turboes and WOW!:thumb
definitely.......if you were wanting something aroung that hp, a toyota v8, preferably the 3UZ-FE (4.3 litre) as found in the local lexus LS430 and
SC430 would be a scumptious choice, and one which i'd probably go. i was just thinking of a reasonable comparison to the 3.8 commodore.
btw: i haven't been checking this forum for a while, so i might be repeating someone here, but did anyone see that bay window kombi in fast 4's from
a couple of months ago, it had a 13B turbo in it with, from memory, 347hp at the wheels. it was from some dyno day. they didn't have any more info on
it other than that apart from the owner being andy roberts i think? there were 2 photo's of it on the dyno. it had no rad or intercooler on the front
either.

Aaron, sorry, that's the name.
geees a 20B, i'm assuming turbo, not n/a. have the men in the white coats come to take him away yet? word up to him!
is the dual cab with the lexus a t2 or t3? either way.....nice!
i think i require the services of such people. if i supply the parts and motor, how many cases of beer an hour do you think they would charge to do a
conversion for me?
i also saw that kombi in the magazine. it was a yellow or a green?/. well its matt black now i believe. hehe. i was asking him about that magazine
shoot only a couple days ago
it was at a rotary dyno day i believe.
sweet kombi. i think he said he got that 13bt to about 400rwp at one stage. now he has axed it for the bigger motor
crazy man.
i am talking to him as much as possible as i am looking at doing a 13bt into a beetle. will be good i think. (i know its no ej20t but some prefer the
higher reving less torquey sort)

he should've kept it that yellowish/greenish colour....i reckon it looked quite good, something a bit different. It had that sort of stripe graphic down the side as well. How did his rad & intercooler cope out the back? has he done a qtr mile run in either the 13b or 20b?
Quote: |
i know. i think the 13bt is the better option myself, being slightly more lightweight and you can pull some seriously high numbers from these with
very little mods.
i was just commenting on the ej20t because every other time i seem to bring up the 13bt idea i always get "ej20t is better blah blah blah"
over here there it is not illegal to have a 13bt. i have checked with the tech department today.
and they said it all depends on the other mods done to the car..there is no set size over here.

Good to hear Anthony....it is legal!
Have you started collecting bits and pieces?
