EJ20T Bays?
fozee - January 13th, 2005 at 06:33 PM

Can i get a role call of all the EJ20T Bus experienced members!?!

Hi there guys,

I have found there is a wealth of information on EJ20T Bug conversions.

However, im a little more interested in EJ20T Bay Windows.

I have a few questions to start off with:

Firstly, where have you guys mounted the radiator?
Does the engine get sufficient cooling?

Secondly, where have you mounted the Intercooler?

Cheers for any forthcoming info

Why would you want an EJ20 T in a Bay ? They are a brick and the Ej 22 is a much better pick in my opinion.

I mount Radiators on the front in a custom setup which sits well and they seem to cool fine. You can put them underneath or in the rear but they take a little more effort.

The biggest problem with the EJ20T into a bay is going to be insduction. Withe the TURBO and Intercooler hitting the area where your fuel tank currently sits.

The EJ20 na is not a real good pick either due to its power curve and torque. I just finished doing an EJ22 into a bus which had an EJ20 na and the guy could not beleive the difference in power and performance.

The EJ22 is not a screaming but it is a very compact engine with good curves and fits perfectly into a bay kombi.

i could have had an ej22 for nothing, when my friend crashed his liberty (engine completely fine) but i was up nth QLD at the time and his mum told him it had to go by the end of the week so the wreckers got it not me :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry
*bangs head on brick wall*

is it possible to put an ej22 turbo in a splitty?...
and is the ej the only turbo engine that will go into something like this?
why not say an rb20det or something similiar...im guessing the size is a major issue

i wouldnt touch an rb20det with a 40 foot pole!!! They are the worst rb ever built nothing but trouble. If your interested in a nissan turbo its gotta be the sr20det! Possibly the best motor ever built by nissan! you can push them so hard without even doing anything to the internals!

so many people have been transplanting rb20's into s13's and then within a year scraping it and going back to the sr20 after having nothign but trouble with them.

if you want to go rb then go the rb25.

Some custom metal fab should sort out the intercooler.
The extent of which depends entirely on if the stock cooler 'top mount' or 'front mount' is used. But metal fab will be required.
I hadnt thought the turbo itsself would be an issue, but come to think of it it stock mounting position will be too far fo'rd. It will most likely need to be relocated.

But it wouldnt be a unique custom conversion ith out a little heart ache...;)

I was under the impression the main difference between the ej20 and ej22 na engine was the head....
