My friend runs a 911 gearbox from an early 2.2 911 on a 3.6 carrera engine in his bug and I want to use the same type of box on my EJ20 TT.
One question: will the engine turn the correct way with this setup or will that give me 5 reverse gears and 1 forward?
You will have 5 forward and 1 reverse gears as long as you use a 911 gearbox. If you take a gearbox of a 914 Porsche you will end up with 5 reverse and 1 forward gear, because the engine is mounted in the middle of the 914 and the gearbox is behind it.
so are you talking about the 915 transaxle?????
does the subie engine run 'backwards'?
Nope. Same direction of rotation as the VW.
Thanks for clearing that up for me
My Suby engine should be here any day now but my friend has exemans for the next 2 weeks and he is going to get me a reasenably prices 911 gear box
at the independent Porsche parts dealer he works part time at. We'll also be putting the aloy 944 rear arms on and brakes but I'm not sure about
which transaxles yet, any ideas on what would work with this combo?
aircooled.net have a tech artical about installing one of these boxes
mate don't worry about the 901 dogleg first a crap of a box and as week as . if you can get your hands on a turbo 930 4 speed go for it, they are rare which = big dollars and cope with big hp but not as expensive as the G50/50 your best bet would be a 915 it is a 5 speed good ratios but not as strong as the 930or G50/50 and the pick of the bunch is the G50/50 a lot bigger than the others can handel in excess of 500hp
The 915, that has first back and left, like the early 911s ?

The 3.0 911's were till 1983 which I believe had the 915 box, The stronger one came with the 3.2 from 1983-1988(G50-not sure?)
Still should take the power fine, a mate of mine works for Bob Wymms, I will ask him how they go tomorrow.
Matt
I was thinking that it might be a good idea to get a used 911 2.2 liter box for now and in about a you switch to a meneola box (when I've saved up enough money) and tuning the engine for some serious HP.
