The biggest issue is with the belt tensioner. I think it is MY97 and later that have a very sensitive mechanism and must be compressed VERY slowly and
then fixed in the short state with a pin through the rod. Subaru dealers have a tool to do this.

found out the new belt was $195.00 + gst at subaru , coventrys had them for $102.00 + gst
My spark plugs were $19.45 each from coventrys so I replaced them while doing the belt .
O for the belt tensioner I used a allan key

I changed my belt about a year ago. I took off the tentioner and compressed it in a big vice and then used a stem from a stainless steel pop rivet,
worked great. By the way I paid about $75 dollars for the belt. Maybe you could order one from the states, Shipping cost might kill the idea
though.

yes did the same , ( slowly compressed it in a vice ) could not find a pop rivet so used the allan key .
Its to easy to get a belt here , the last one I got from the Usa for my 96 jeep did not fit :cry
