8 pounds of boost, small quiet 2.5 inch exhaust, pod filter, Microtech computer. The rest stock. My fellow Pastizzi eater Nathan Bajda played with the
computer & it now comes on boost at 2650rpm & u can hear it chirping the tyres in 2nd gear in the dry on the flat when it comes on boost.
It's quite an exciting ride.
Nathan said with a 3 inch exhaust & 10 pounds boost it may crack 220hp plus at the wheels. But this is more than enough for me!! For now. Could
also safely add more timing on boost as well, conservative has been my moto so far.
145.7kw @ the wheels.

Jak

saw you the other day, turning onto manns road. looked and sounded sweet mate....
Isnt it a simple basic motor ,cheap thrills ,cost half the price of anything else, uses only 4 plugs, has hp to give a hard on for the rest of your life.go skaife.JVLRacing
Wow thats impressive:-
145 kiloWatts = 194.448203 horsepower
I bet it would cost three times as much to get that hp out of a VW block!
How much did you have to move the gearbox forward Jak? What box are you using?
Cheers
Steve
i think i read somewhere that he is using a standard L bug box?
Anthony
I was at the dyno today....it sounds so quiet at idle and low revs, kinda howls and whistles at 6k though!
Jak was leaning through one window telling the guy not to tune it up much as it is his daily driver...I'm telling him to up the boost and tune the
hell out of it...with 10 or 12 pound and all the maps tweaked it would have easy another 25kw.
You do not want to let all the ponies gallop from the stable at once!
Matt
I'm running a standard L-bug gearbox moved forward 2 inches.
I said to Nathan, 'I only take it to 5500rpm so don't bother going much past there' He just rolled his eyes at me & said OK, on the first run
he dropped off at 5500rpm & it made 125kw @ the wheels.
'It wants to rev, I can feel it' So the next few runs he took it all the way to 7000rpm & it still didnt' drop off in power.
I'm wrapped! We then spent an hour going through all the maps for cruise at 60km, 80km , 100km & 120km adjusting the fuel for economy off
boost.
U could feel the difference just leaning against the car when something was changed.
It was well worth the effort.

Jak
Aw man I can feel myself getting sucked in to the subie fold! Nice work Jak
I'm amazed at that torque curve, it's so flat. A good indication of a well breathing well set-up engine.
nice work Jak. The conservative is a good moto. It's less expensive and heart breaking than breaking stuff
I'm encouraged! Now I just need to start saving
Yeah engine transplants are nice... ... but it isn't a VW any more

Man I am hanging out to see how well me buggy goes with the sti motor. Like the flat torque curve you got it must be bloody nice to drive.
Well done Jak.
We've had our differences, but I genuinely mean it when I say you must be very pleased and proud of what you have achieved. I admire the short time
it took to do the conversion. I am sure there will be a few more converts, knowing that yours has turned out so well.
If I didn't have an Oval, mmmmm ..........................
maybe!

The conversion looks like a lot of work and I swear Jak should be an engineer and not an architect.
Imagine the R & D work trying to get that kind of a torque curve and that much horsepower out of a beetle engine. Then the conversion doesn't
look that big.
I'm disappointed that Jak didn't do a few tweeks just to hit the majic 200 hp mark. It's so close.
Well done Jak. I think you should have a Maltese Star on your sig line.
Congrats to Pastitzi (sp?) Racing and Cable Tie Engineering.
well done jak........:thumb

The acceleration times vary alot depending on the specifics of Jak's car that I don't know.
You obviously don't know me very well, I don't pull numbers out of thin air.
I know you'd be smarter than to say "12-something". That's what a ricer would say
Quote: |
Nice work Wes...hard to believe those figures when you think your car is quick doing 15's. Even harder when Jaks conversion cost $4000 not $10k+.
Hey doesnt VW own the design rights to the ej20t?
So it is still a vw after all.
Matt
Jak,
By my calculations you should be looking at 12 something second 1/4 mile times and 0-100kph in 4 something seconds. It must be fun to drive.
Wes
I think high 13 Wes, with a high mph. I like to be conservative & have a surprize at the end.!
Oh & my car weighs 1000kg now.
regards
Jak
PS thanks for doing that!

Damn fine result Jak. Now to get down to Terrigal on a Thursday night and shut the ricers up.
Matt that is correct, its still a vw design all German design motor. The Patient design was given to Japan on clauses that they changed it from a standard design to a upgraded steriod motor to what we see today.(This is fact not fiction)JVLRacing
1000kg with or without the driver?
1000kg + driver will push you into the 13's, correct.
I don't think the aerodynamic figures are quite right though, because it is predicting a top speed of 205kph. VW's are pretty unaerodynamic though.
The Cd figure I have is I think for an early standard beetle, yours would be better I guess.
And anyone with Excel 2000 or better can download and play with that program.

Thats pretty much spot on Wes, probably 1070kg with me , full tank of fuel & the stereo on!

Jak
