anyone mounted a bus box in an IRS bug yet (pics maybe)?
I'll be putting one in on an EJ20TT engine and will be reversing the rear mount to bring the box and engine forward.
what are you going to do about the short ratios? That's the thing that puts me off a bus box in a street car...
Rich
top speed won't be very high with the box I know but it's temporary. As soon as my budget allows it I'll get a Mendeola box.
Have a look at Wes' web site. I think he's using a bus box that has had the gear ratios changed.
I can remember the web address exactly, but I think it's in here somewhere .... http://www.offroadvw.net/bajawes/linktoV6.htm

Why not just use a single side plate beetle box?
Matt
Kombi ratios are fine if you use a 2L / 091 box. Custom Offroad do a kit - http://www.customoffroad.com.au
Wes has custom 4th in his box, .81 from memory
thanks for the link but couldn't really find a usefull pick of how the bus trans was attached to the chassis.
I planned on just bringing chassis + trans to the VW Bug shop and have them make mounts for it+ for the engine but they are to busy at the moment and
are the only bug shop in about 60 miles from here.
so hike the 60 miles
heck. in perth we gotta go at least 30km to find civilisation from my house. (exageration, but the city is about 25km from here) :p

The kit has a custom rear cross member that bolts to the rear like the bug one but much stronger with transaxle straps. The front mounts needs sleevs
put in the frame horns. This allows the front strap to be used and gives it a rubber moun setup both back and front.
You can move it fwd 2" as well if you like just step the rear mount.
I went to a rather tall 0.70:1 4th.
The stock ratio is around 0.88:1.
You can replace every gear set in the kombi box for less money than a porsche or mendeola box
That kit is just what I need
Only one thing I'm concerned about, I need to place the trans forward to fit the subary engine (planned on reversing the rear trans mount, that gives
about 4,5 centimeters).
From the pictures it's hard to see if moving it forward with that kit is doable, can anyone confirm if it is?
what did you do about the starter motor being in the way of the little turbo did you have to move it and the other one does it sit near the clutch arm
found this adaptor on CSP in Germany but it's only the frount mount
