Subaru SVX Engine Conversions - Bay Kombi
Brad - July 13th, 2005 at 08:12 AM

Due to the ever increasing demand for more power and people constantly wanting to put a turbo motor in their kombi we are soon to offer the SVX 6 Cylinder engine as a conversion option for the bay window kombi.

AT this stage it is going to cost $10 500 drive in / drive out.

Exact engine specs will follow and we maybe able to do it much cheaper when I buy a few.

For that matter the D.I.Y Kit we now offer suits the SVX engine just as well as the EJ22.

Anyway just thought I would see what the opinion was ?

Yes this is a result of me towing silly weights with my EJ 22 and wanting more power..

pete wood - July 13th, 2005 at 10:04 AM

you mean just wanting more power...:P

Dero - July 13th, 2005 at 10:32 AM

Hey Brad...

yeah whats the reason for no turbo? i think im missing something.

seagull - July 13th, 2005 at 09:21 PM

Segull

fozee - July 13th, 2005 at 09:39 PM

If you said this 6 months ago my bay would be your first

Baja Wes - July 14th, 2005 at 10:48 AM

just go for the Lexus V8. The people that want fuel economy and cheap rego can stick with the EJ22.

For the kombi you want torque, and you can't beat a V8 for torque.

Dero - July 14th, 2005 at 11:26 AM

blimey lexus V8 whats one of them worth... am i thinking straight... splittly V8....

im kidding myself...

gull - July 14th, 2005 at 12:16 PM

mine cost $1100.00 , cheap

Brad - July 14th, 2005 at 01:38 PM

I don't like petrol Turbo's for towing

Looks like the Lexus V8 will be a better option ... still researching.

SVX or Lexus V8 same price

kombi_kid - July 14th, 2005 at 01:43 PM

go lexus V8 brad i know i will get one when i have the pennies!! the only issue there is that pretty much a whole new kit needs to be produced although going subaru u have the kit already?? if you like a challenge go V8 for me :kiss::kiss:
cheers
rhys
p.s. if you still have ya dual cab when u come down u have to let me take it for a spin!

MikeM - July 14th, 2005 at 01:50 PM

Do you have to cut the engine bay to make the lexus V8 fit?

gull - July 14th, 2005 at 03:02 PM

Brad most of the SVX I have seen are like 2.8K , the v8 toyota I paid$1100.00 , then aftermarket ecy $1040.00 , o that was with a auto as well .

there are heaps of these donks about

Dero - July 14th, 2005 at 03:30 PM

when did you get that sea(gull)? Is this for your next project?

gull - July 14th, 2005 at 03:49 PM

yes lost my wings , MY mate has a few of these > I have a long term project in the wind , just need to sort my Subaru out 1st .

seagull - July 14th, 2005 at 07:38 PM

The V8 toyota was purchased a jap importer in Perth ,I have seen them as low as $950.00 .I think Brians ( tow car ) was 218kw at the wheels ?? > chris was this right ??

info can be found at lextreme.com , some good info there nn[ Edited on 14-7-2005 by seagull ]

reub - July 14th, 2005 at 08:01 PM

go the lexus.....yummo

fozee - July 14th, 2005 at 08:43 PM

I Have started the Lexus V8 conversion already.
I picked up my engine for $1000 with auto and all accessories. Great engine, more advanced than the SVX dare i say.

There is a 1UZFE (Lexus/Crown/Celsior) V8 for sale on ebay. Asking $1500 with 16000kms on the clock. Thats great K's for the import engine and a reasonable price. He told me it is a 1990 engine, mid mount sump, so its not from a crown, likely an early lexus. Doesnt come with the wiring loom. Just check if it has the sensors and youll be good to go.

I spoke to a guy in QLD that did the conversion mostly himself. He said he ran the standard ecu and had it piggybacked and made easily over 200Kw at the rear wheels through a 4spd box. Though he went through a few boxes. So youd definately have to spend the money on your box too.

Oops sorry for high jacking the thread.

Try and develop a conversion for the 1UZFE!!!!!

Baja Wes - July 14th, 2005 at 09:21 PM

Brad knows he wants to do the lexus. the SVX is only half way there, a step up from a 4cyl but not true mind numbing torque. He knows if he goes SVX then he will eventually end up at the lexus anyhow. he can hear the rumble of the V8 kombi now............. the sound of the tyres grinding on the road as it powerslides up the street............. he knows he wants it.........

What does this V8 red line at?
Will it be ok at the revs a kombi turns an engine at when sitting at 110 (+++:))?

StenGuns - July 14th, 2005 at 10:18 PM

I have two DC's that are getting rebuilt right now.. Both will run 1UZFE V8 Lexus engines.. I have been quoted around 2,000 for the front cut.. Add another 3-5,000 for engineering and miscellaneous issues.. At the end of the day, I am getting a vehicle with close to 300HP.. Reliability, Horsepower, What can I say.. I guess showing is better than talking so watch this space.. By the way,, If you get to this point.. Add another 10K for re-trim (custom interior, GPS, Nav gear, Comms, Inboard water tank, Long range fuel cells, Paint etc.. Upgraded suspension, Brakes.. The list is endless..
At the end of the day, I will have two, go just about anywhere tourers, that will handle decent offraod fun and still look good in Pitt, Collins, or Adelaide Street.. I'll keep you all posted.. I am no expert as this is all a learning curve.. By the way.. I have another DC that will get an EJ22 transplant as it is a work vehicle and nothing will beat what Brad (COR) is doing for general all round useability.. Cheers

My mates raced the toyota for about three years ( off road ) so far the motor has been very good , killed one coil pack , about 6 X 9" diffs , 7 x gear boxes 2 x tail shafts

fozee - July 15th, 2005 at 02:29 PM

The engine is approximately a 690mm cube.
I think a little trimming will be needed to fit her but she would be worth the little bit of extra effort.

11CAB - July 15th, 2005 at 05:38 PM

Sherman has the adaptor kit for the Lexus V8, and a standard motor with a Gonzo exhaust & Autronic computer will happily rev to 7800rpm all day in an Offroad Buggy. And they rev like a motor bike too.....:thumb

Doug Sweetman - July 15th, 2005 at 06:16 PM

There is an Orange VK commonwhore offroad racer over here in the west with one of these in it..... doesnt have much in the way of suspension (class whatever it is has limits or something) but by crikey does it go ! and rev......

There is also a twin turbo 1UZFE in a drag Camira over here too, over 700kw from memory........

The 1UZFE is also possibly the strongest bottom end in history - I hear it has 6 bolt mains as standard, and I have heard of up to and over the 1000hp mark on standard bottom end.

seagull - July 15th, 2005 at 10:21 PM

and in the MAD MAX buggy too Doug ! :)

StenGuns - July 15th, 2005 at 11:59 PM

I'm excited
