KruizinKombi - July 18th, 2005 at 09:36 AM

That is definitely my cup of tea. :thumb

I've been wondering about this conversion for a while, how much does the body need to be cut to allow room? (I thought the engine was a couple of inches too long...)

71superbug - July 18th, 2005 at 10:27 AM

the lexus 1uzfe motor is quite a wide motor...that would be more of a worry i imagine.

KruizinKombi - July 18th, 2005 at 10:51 AM

so is the kombi motor....

bigbaja - July 18th, 2005 at 01:39 PM

Dual Cab hasn't been stretched .... it has the same sides it had when it was a Type 4 powered beast.

I think Brad is putting on in his Dual Cab and he isn't stretching anything. They are 700 x 700 x 700,

KruizinKombi - July 18th, 2005 at 01:42 PM

Actually, I can see from the photos above that the bottom lip of the engine bay has indeed been stratched outwards by a couple inches....

700x700x700... from where to where?

Baja Wes - July 18th, 2005 at 01:44 PM

as posted in the SVX thread (as a link)

Ps - I am trying to find more detailed dimensions. Someone must have some sectional drawings...

jvl054 - July 18th, 2005 at 01:58 PM

Front mid-mount i like:bounceit can be done!!!JVLRacing:thumb

gull - July 18th, 2005 at 02:17 PM

The first thing I did was throw the traction control in The BIN, the inlet can be turned 180 deg as well , so makes them easy to fit into Cars , holden ect

I post some photos of the race car

KruizinKombi - July 18th, 2005 at 02:20 PM

Thanks Wes. I looked at one when I went to 11CAB's workshop last time I was in QLd and remember calculating that it was tool long to fit in an unaltered kombi engine bay. I guess that explains the mods to the twincab above.

I am certain though, that if I was to go to the expense of an engine conversion, it would have to be an alloy V8. Even though I have a couple of P76 V8's at home, I can't justify all that expense to put in an old pushrod motor, so I think the Lexus or Landcruiser engines would be the go. There was a Nissan V8 also, but I don't know much about it.

These motors are great for upping power out put as well. As they come with forged pistons and 6 bolt mains from the factory.

fozee - July 18th, 2005 at 10:22 PM

I think they are factory balanced also.
With the right exhaust they sound more like seriously tuned high OP NA engine, F1 note. Really smooth powerful.

As soon as i get my Gearbox back from CBB i can tell you exactly how much trimming needs to be done in the engine bay.nn[ Edited on 18-7-2005 by fozee]

Brad - July 19th, 2005 at 02:44 PM

That D/C is not stretched it is stock length with a boxed out rear engine bay.

I have measured the engine bay and a Lexus V8 and it will fit without boxing the engine bay.

Time will show this to be the case .. unless I go mid mount and retain the lexus box.

koolkarmakombi - July 19th, 2005 at 02:56 PM

That bus looks soooooo tough in the flesh, sounded good too

What a great site!.. Definately a worthy reference point for anyone considering this power plant

71superbug - July 20th, 2005 at 07:39 PM

yeah that lextreme site has a lot of information about the 1uzfe aswell as the 2jzgte i believe. and a good conversion/forced induction forum for hte 1uzfe...should see the power some of the guys are getting out of a single turbo 1uzfe..that is a completely stock motor.

Which kombi?

The silver bus up top went through several 1800 manuals. He told me he used those cause he was seriously into offroad recreation, and the ratios were more appropriate.nn[ Edited on 21-7-2005 by fozee ]

Baja Wes - July 25th, 2005 at 05:19 PM

just thought I'd post this page that had an interesting little comparo with the Nissan VH45 (which is shorter but heavier) and the Lexus 1UZ.

VWENVY - July 28th, 2005 at 11:10 AM

Foprget the Lexus V8!!

How about a Subaru H12 :P:P

Found this pic on a Subi site - apparently Subaru was looking at going into Formula 1 and this was the powerplant!! :jesus would be interesting to see the torque this thing could produce nn[ Edited on 29-7-2005 by VWENVY ]

KruizinKombi - July 29th, 2005 at 11:05 AM

Hmmm, would be nice as a mid-mount, but I'd need wheelie-bars with that hanging out the back! :punk:

plough - July 29th, 2005 at 10:24 PM

71superbug - August 4th, 2005 at 12:52 AM

as far as i know they have not made a flat 8cyl for wrx..i think they have always maintained the flat 4 turbo

Anthony:ninja:

seagull - August 4th, 2005 at 12:59 AM

there are flat v8 on the net ? I have seen the wording JDM 8 cyl up grades ??

71superbug - August 4th, 2005 at 01:18 AM
