engine conversion which to choose?

Hiy anew to the site. I have a bay window van and want a lot more ompff? What are my best options? Subaru, porsche, v8 ????? I can't find any conversion kits here in the uk (or I am not looking hard). What you guys suggest and how much will it cost me ( I know how to weld and work on cars)?

Subari Legacy 2.2-litre engine (or the "Impreza 555" Turbo 2.0-litre) is a popular conversion in Australia. It fits well (with an adapter plate/bellhousing plate on the standard gearbox) in Beetles and Kombis and has good performance, economy and longevity. Do a search on here (eg: Subaru & conversion...) for more info

You may wish to import an adapter plate from Oz. It will cost you around 300 quid (rough guesstimate)

Peugoet 205 1.9 with Turbo. Works well in my barndoor double door crew cab.

Speak to Ricola, he is in the uk and seems to know where to find the bits you will need. I personally have 2 subaru turbo conversions and love them.

there are cheaper sources (if you speak German) but http://www.tsrdragracers.co.uk  are the best known in the UK, quite a few of the racers in the alternative engine class were converted by them.

There's also my site with a couple of swaps (currently WRX'ing my 1303 cabrio)

thanks guys I am very tempted for the 2.2 16v!!! I reckon I'll have to build it myself and all parts except engine would come to around £800. Question is where to get a good engine I guess ebay will be a good start. Are conversion parts much cheaper in Germany then?

Maybe things are different in the UK but over here in Belgium I wasn't able to find a good 2.0 turbo suby engine so I bought one in the U.S., shipping was only 330 Euro + about 110 Euro import taxes.

how about a Pug MI16 or Renault 5 turbo, you can buy them in the UK, whole car for stuff all...
