This was on a 550 Spyder forum I frequent.
The site is not working though.

Hi Peter

Thats nice but with our exchange rate its a bit pricy, but a least you get to use the parts that are normally left over, clutch, starter & flywheel. 470.00 GBP = 1,125.15 AUD or for the turbo 540.00 GBP = 1,292.62 AUD

Hmmm, interesting, expensive, but interesting.

Any idea if there is someone that still makes them?

type2nut - November 3rd, 2005 at 08:40 AM

YEP.
Check my EJ25 Syncro posting for a description.

i have one too - they are lovely bit of kit - you do save a bit by re-using subaru parts (especially on the clutch, and starter) - it worked out only slightly (£50 or so) more expensive for me to have one of these than purchase of the kennedy kit - in addition I can run a t25 hydraulic clutch. YEs there are definatly cheap kits out there but I think overall it makes for a much better engineered conversion as it uses subaru flywheel ratehr than hybrid, cheap and available clutch parts rather than uprated VW ones and also the proper starter motor.

In my opinion and for my application i can sya its defo worth the $/£

Admittedly i do live in the Uk tho so import costs on the kennedy kit come into play too!

Rich at RJES is a really helpful chap too and these come wiht mega comprehensive insturctions. THe site is going live imminantly so keep on checking it!!

Email me if you are interested
raredownunder@yahoo.co.uk

I'll be meeting up with Richard while in the UK
I'm leaving Thursday next week.
Yippee, 7 weeks off work!

If enough people are interested I can try organising a bulk buy to get a few more of these on our roads.

Let me know on the email address soon.

I've spoken with him too. He has been developing the bellhousing for a while now, there are two different types as the turbo and NA engines use different style clutches (pull/push). He is finishing off his website at the moment and also plans to do a sump in the future as well as other Subaru conversion bits (speed sensors, reversed coolant pipes etc etc)

Sounds quiet interesting as a kit!!!How long has this kit been developed Rich?....JVLRacing

type2nut - November 4th, 2005 at 07:41 AM

I got my bellhousing (and associated bits and pieces) at the beginnng of this year.

At that stage he didn't have any other parts of the kit developed but that has obviously changed. He now has his own van (also a Syncro) running a Suby and has sold all of (at least) the first production batch of bellhousings and I know he had the kit on display at Vanfest this Sept and sold some there too.

Now works! But it looks like it needs some finishing off yet.

Seems like he's going to need an Aussie distributor of these kits !?

EgeWorks - November 4th, 2005 at 12:23 PM

A version for a SSP box would be cool. They do look pretty well done.

VWCOOL - November 4th, 2005 at 01:11 PM

Yep - that's late BUS transmisison... won't fit a Beetle. And you have to use more expensive Subie starter motor etc

type2nut - November 4th, 2005 at 01:12 PM

"Seems like he's going to need an Aussie distributor of these kits !?"

Amongst other reasons, why do you think I'm going to see him???

I'm pretty sure the starter comes with a front cut yeah?

What about the flywheel and clutch/pressure plate, do they come with a front cut?

richbaker78 - November 4th, 2005 at 08:09 PM

uses std flywheel, clutch etc

expensive starter? not over here they aint - there are so many available your looking at about £20 max (canu use na ones on turbos too with tiny mod)- great availability and purpose made for the job. I sold my old van one on ebay which paid for the scooby one with a bit left over :thumb

type2nut - November 5th, 2005 at 07:30 PM

His website is now up and running
http://www.rjes.com

The products look all look really top quality and the prices are reasonable IMO.
Can't wait to see them!

doppelganger - December 17th, 2005 at 08:01 AM

i have 2 of these bellhousings one on a 2.2 scooby caravell
with a bug@5speed sump and subaru engine mounts .and another going on my drag beetle with wrx engine and lowered sump from martin.also using reversed coolant manifold on both.and scooby starters are easier to get hold of and cheaper and last longer than vw on a scooby conversion .i also have another 2.2 in a single cab t25 that i use for work, with adaptor plate.guess which one is being changed.
did i mention i have nos on 2 out of the 3:P
