Marz - April 24th, 2006 at 11:13 PM

so i'm thinkin of buildin a baja and i happen to have a corvair engine out of a 2lt bay in the shed and i was wonderin if i can change the fly wheel on it so it will fit up to a 1600 bug box and wether the box would hack it or not. i will i have to fab up a kombi box ? i dont intend on regoing it. any advice?

if you're building a Baja, may as well put the 2litre gearbox/CVs in it as well. that way you have the strength and he ratios to drive 31" tyres.

Don't corvair engines rotate in the oposite direction to a VW?
If so the combi gear box would have been modified, i think they swap the crown and pinion in the differential. Its been a while since i research it!

That is they swap the crown and pinion to the other side of the drive shaft.

Go the 2 liter box.The motors run in the opposite direction normally, but if you got it out of a Kombi, chances are the motor direction has been changed to suit VW application (different cams etc so the motor runs backwards). A beetle box wont last long, the torque will kill it!!! Have fun...:party
