piggy backing onto the factory ECU
pete wood - April 28th, 2006 at 11:22 AM

Has anyone on here set up their standard ECu with an aftermarket one piggybacked onto it?

I'm interested in doing this as I believe my EJ25 is quite conservatively tuned. I'm also inclined to think that the mixtures are very rich. So in the interests of power and economy I'd like to have a go at the piggyback thingo.

I know you're all going to say just take the factory ECU off, but for Legal reasons I can't really do that.

Any tips on ECUs or whatever would be good too.

I think the scoobies use a memcal system like GM. If so, get a new memcal burned and plugged in.

I have a kit that is sold by Jacar that is an AFM interceptor. It's programable via a laptop, so you can trim your AFRs. There are plenty of units on the market.

I'll have a read and go from there. Shame the salesboy (looked about 14) didn't have a clue, oh well, I'll figure it out for myself.

Thanx for the tips guys.:)

Pete.
I have the digital fuel adjuster assembled and the hand controller that you use for that and other kits. I'm not using it, you can have them both for $70 if you want them. Brand new and never been mounted.

Talk to MRT in Sydney or ChipTorque in Qld about tuning your PCM. But beware, if it's in a VW - gearboxes WILL break... ;)

No it won't. It's got a kombi box and CVs. Besides, I drive like a Nana.

HotRodMatt - April 29th, 2006 at 05:56 PM

Kombi boxes can still break, even with Albins gears...

how much power does the cranky one put out? I'm guessing a bog stock ej25 puts out less than half.

BTW, what size motor is he using now? is it still twin supercharged?
