Subaru H6 (ER27) into bus?
iggi - May 7th, 2006 at 07:07 AM

Thanks to hellbus and others I've been thinking about putting a subie in my '79 Westy.

While shopping around for an EJ22 I tripped across a 1991 ER27 (the 2.7 litre flat 6) complete harness, etc with only 129,000K on it, and it's cheap!

Has anyone else used this motor in a vw conversion?

Anybody know if this will fit in the type II engine bay without any substantial cutting?

Thanks!

the er 27 was a bad engine when in the subie, it had a lot of reliability issues.

Go eg33 if yoU WANT TO GO FLAT 6

yes the 2.7 did have some issues , you would be better to get a H6 motor or the SVX 3.3 ltr they are better , but fuel cost is up there now days
My H6 in my outback get 450ks per tank

Humty has the 3.3 ltr in a bus , It for sale If I recall would be a great project

Thanks for the feedback.
The H6 seemed like an interesting option (but not if it's a lemon or a problematic conversion.

Cheers,

what about the sohc ej25? just about everyone seems to overlook it, but it seems to me to be the logical choice for t2's or 3's.

yes the new (compared to the rest of the subaru range, came out in 2000) ez30 is reffered to as a h6 (but i'm guessing subaru means it's a horizontally oppossed six cylinder and therefore, the er27 was also referrred to as this.

I can't figure this out either. Perhaps the newer engines are not yet down into the price range to tempt experimentation.

They put a lot of SOHC EJ25s into sand cars over here in SoCal. I'm considering it for my '71 bus. Seems like a better fit and powerband than the DOHC version.
