There are two people on this forum you should ask.
13BVW
name: Andrew Smith
Location : Ipswich near brisbane
Project: 13b turbo rotary into 1964 manx (ongoing for 10 years)
pefomance : 216 rwhp runs 11.93 @114mph on street tyres
See the end of "who is modifying what and where" post. I have no idea how it is legal.
and
quick camper
Aaron, has a matt black 76 bay kombi camper with a 20B turbo. Think he has about 500HP. Runs 12.10 or so down the quarter, quite insane. See page 2
and 3 of the same post. QLD as well.
sweet guys
will check em out
yer mate i know of an old boy in the VW club of wa with a rotary in a white bug but never seen it moove...
tyre fryer i imagine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh and i dont think anyone is guna tell you not to go down the rotary road, we all know they haul ass in a beetle over an eJ
i believe Wayne Penrose (hi po vw) started with a rotary powerd bug years ago
Wes is correct regarding legally fitting a 13b turbo let alone a NA 13B into a bug dont think it can be done. Mine however wasn't built here it was rotorised back in 1989 in New Zealand the previous owner brought it over with him when he emigrated here in 1996 he then spent several months changeing things such as wheels (too wide) extending the bumpers to the width of the car and having some more strengthening in the pan to get it registered as it was previously regd in NZ i believe thats how its allowed. I purchased it a few months after it was regd.

Hi Andrew,
Good to see you on the forum. I've seen your 13BVW around for years, at Harry's diner once I think and at willowbank.
If people want to use a near current version of the 13B (like from the RX8), and use the stock emission gear, then you could register it as an ICV.
Then you'd be able to run whatever tyre sizes you want. There are quite a few other annoying things you'd have to do, but it can be done. Custom
offroad does ICV's. That's how wild things like EJ25T powered buggies with huge mudders get registered.
it is the cc calculation 13b is seen as a 2.6litre add turbo and the ccrises.
its not like that over here in perth thankfully. not yet anyway.
we can have whatever.
Anthony
i've got a 71 bug with a 12a mild port in it the floorpan is also engineered for a 13b . havent driven it yet due to not being finished , i'll see
if i can post some pics.
May even want to sell it mmm as I have 9 vws at the moment.
Yeah they used to be cool two decades ago but with the availability of WRX engines in teh last 10-15 years, that's a more reliable and sensible way
to go these days

Hey there guys i am the proud owner of a rotary powered vw . It is a 1969 baja packing a large extended port injected 13b out the back. all work was performed in the garage and the performance is nothing short of unreal. Feel free to ask any questions or for pics of build . a web site of the build is currently under construction .
yes please pics a plenty.

Hey guys im interested in baja wes info on registering a vechile as a ICV (what is it and how can it be done) Thanks guys any info would be very much
appreciated
to add an image just resize it to under 50kb and use the attachement feature when you post a reply.
an ICV is an individually constructed vehicle. There is a lot of work involved, as you need to make the car meet modern ADR requirements. The hardest
part is the engine emissions requirement, but if you use and engine ecu from a current spec engine then you don't have to get it tested.
Then once the car is ready you have to write a rather large report showing how the car complies with all the rules, and ADR requirements. And then you
need an approval engineer to sign off on it all to approve it.
Read the LO section of the NCOP and you'll get some idea of what needs to be done.
Hey guys the link below has some pics from the buildup of my rotor baja. there is barley anything on there at the monment but in the near future i
shall put up all the build pics and include some vids of my rotor baja doin a few runs. cheers guys.

I'm sure I put a post on here saying that a 13B bug CANNOT be registered as an ICV
Quote: |
In short, because it's a Bug and not an ICV...
That's not a reason. You can register a bug as an ICV, so long as it meets all the ADR requirements.
Just like you can register a long wheel base buggy as a modified production vehicle (rebodied LH5/LH6 so only the body needs to meet the new ADR's)
or an ICV where the whole car needs to meet the ADR's.
