Bodywork mods for 71 Superbeetle for EJ22

If I were to fit a Subaru EJ22 in my 71 Superbeetle, does the rear apron sheetmetal have to be pushed out in order for the engine to fit? I understand the EJ22 is too wide and therefore some metal cutting have to be performed by the fender, I am just not sure about the rear apron. I have done an EJ22T in a Vanagon using Kennedy adapter and it worked well. I would like to try it in a Super Beetle. How will the EJ22 fit underneath the chassis dueing installation. Is there enough room under the chassis? Can it slide in like the regular bug engine without any interference?

Hello Carlo,

you can almost slide it in the enginebay of a Superbeetle, like the VW engine! There is no need to cut the fenders, you have to cut only a little piece on the inside of the apron on the left and right side! This is needed to have space for getting it in.
