T3 T25 Vanagon Dual cab conversion ideas
waltermitty - August 23rd, 2006 at 07:19 PM

Hi I havea nice dual cab 2.1 lt wasser Auto and would liuke some ideas for a transplant that will be more powerful ( able to toe a camper traile raround Aussie ) and more economical. The way it is I recon the towing would be just acceptable but the economy is not good 13 lt/100 kms best effort unladen highway milage. I dont need siilyl additional powerbut more would be good but better economy is desired.
There is a link on the sydney vw club site see

http://www.clubvw.org.au/a_wasserboxer_adventure.htm

where the vintage boys chipped and installed 1.4 ratio rockers to a wasser forthey claim 49 % more powerand 15% better economy I can do this fo rabout $1000 however its a bit hard to believe frankly . Any ideas?

you can get a 2.4litre kit from the states + add the ratio rockers etc then it will pull stumps

flies compared to an old air cooled Kombi maybe

but even with the Oetinger 2.5 litre motor there still not fast by any stretch of the imagination.

not sure about the fuel economy or lack their of

I assume it would also be running on 98 RON. I hear bashing out the cat also does wonders.

The chip and rockers may substantially increase power but given the existing level of torque in the stock motor, it couldn't increase too much more and therefore may not be that much better for towing?

I wanna put an ej25 sohc in my caravelle. Although ej22's seem to be the most popular, i think the ej25 has a useful amount of extra power (without going overboard) and will still have better economy than the stock motor.

I'd also suggest (if possible) giving it some taller gearing to further improve the highway economy and to really take advantage of the extra power and torque.

just my 2 cents
