EJ20 NA (97-98), Rad Fan coming on at 85°C

Well my bus is up and running but my fan (ECU controlled) is coming on at 85°C. I'm sure it's meant to come on at 95°C. It turns off at around 78
I borrowed a calibrated (standard) digital termometer and attached the sensor to the heater outlet from the water manifold. There's no matrix fitted,
just a straight 4" loopback. Measurements taken with van static.
It was easy to see when the thermostat opened (started at 76C) as the temp leveled out. Temp peaked to 85 and the fan came on. Ummmm.
I'm not sure if my doner had AC but there were both AC and Main fan wires from the ECU. I feel sure I wired in the correct one.
(I could not find a correct wiring diagram anywhere & had to buzz out the whole ECU pinouts.)
Any ideas?
Apart from that she goes well, very well 
Gotta sort some heating soon as it's starting to get a bit chilly in Blighty.

It's a single cam. Could you not just post the link to what the solution is please? Or spare 5 mins to tell me

I couldn't find another specific one.
I have a full PDF of a 2002 EJ NA & Turbo including cct diagrams - which isn't any use. I did find a 97 which is about right (all bar the turbo
bit)
I don't know if mine's coming on at 85°C because I haven't got a VSS - apparently some EJ's don't care about this, some do.
In the 2002 model the VSS also controls the fan(s) switch on temperature dependant to speed. Also if the ECU thinks the A/C is on the fan comes on at
a lower temperature.
I don't know if mine had A/C to start & would like to know if I need to overide this.
I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone suggested this as being a problem as you guys have done loads of these conversions.

I cannot assure the accuracy of my calculations, but our fan comes on at about 92 degrees and goes off at about 85 degrees

That is EJ22 with standard ECU that had aircon by the way.

That's a far better start point than mine.
Are you using a VSS?
As I said mine turns off at 78 which is right at the end of the thermostat opening range. I belive Subaru's optimum temperature is 90-95°C which my
ECU isn't allowing.
Got me right confused. It's getting cold here and the fan's operating, not good. Still got the winter to suss it out.
