not quite a vw... but....
rivmasta - October 18th, 2006 at 10:07 AM

I was racing an offroad buggy with a 4AGE hooked to a full spec 1800 kombi box. CDI ignition, EMS ECU etc... until a bunyip jumped out on the track and we hit a tree...

CAMS decided that the car was wrecked, not to be driven again... LINK Ouch...

So - we've built a new one. It was originally designed to run a 4AG20v into a Renault UN5 trans, but we decided that it wasnt going to be fast enough... so a 1UZFE is going in instead... hehe... LINK fun stuff!

If anyone is interested in playing with toyota 4AG variants, or renault boxes I can help with advice.

With the new racecar almost done and a decent lumpsum payout from work just over the horizon Im looking for a manx to cruise about in on a lazy sunny sunday arvo... and maybe to use as a pre-runner later! haha!

Sure made a mess of that Riv, didn't you - must've been a big bunyip to force you off the track. The new one looks good though - you gonna mount "shoo bunyips" on the nudge bar ?

new buggy looks great, what did you do with your old powerplant out of the old car?

rivmasta - October 18th, 2006 at 03:59 PM

Definately gonna have a 'this way up' sticker as the old car ended up on her roof more than once... hehehe...

As for the old powerplants, gearboxes, front ends, adjusters, front and rear extended arms, wheels, tyres, brakes, hubs, pretty much everything has been sold off to finance the new car.

why not run a 4AGZE - supercharged version ??

ZE's are fat on torque... but not on HP... 20v with VVT is a better race motor...

Besides CAMS rules say any forced induction has to come with a multiplication factor of 1.7 to the swept volume... If I was gonna do that I would have run an SR20DET instead.

But at the end of the day... what I reeeeally wanted was a non-pushrod V8! Fat on torque, but with 6 bolt mains spins like a humming bird in heat!

Besides - I want the manx to reccy events where you're not allowed to take the racecar... Although... class 5 at Colo club days... hmmm... :)

The grapevine tells me uve got a new one underway too - care to share any details?

Desert Moose - October 20th, 2006 at 10:29 AM

yeah, your on the money...

Building a class 4 (f-150)
and also Manx if I ever get 5 min to work on my own cars....

rivmasta - October 20th, 2006 at 01:41 PM

Ive been working with Paul Grant getting his car (bennett truck) to handle decently. He turned his big dollar clevo into a boat anchor at goondi... He now has one of those new two peice cranks... funky new 90deg conrods, reeeeally lightweight pistons and bores that look like they've got 2stroke valves in the side....oops....

what body are you going for with the f-truck? lightning perhaps?

5 mins to work on your own car - dont be rediculous!

ps - wanna build me a manx? haha!

Naa - spoke to Wayne at WHM (another offroader as you'd know) and to get one built is just toooo many biccies. I'd annoy my bank manager, my wife would divorce me and I'd end out having to live in the garage....

Actually, there's no down side there! :p
