A friend of mine is putting a WRX with a 091 box into a splitty. Anyone know what axles will fit
don't worry about it...apparently he needs to replace all the rear components with early bay stuff...springplates hubs etc:tree
late bay stuff (small PCD) would be better - that way he can fit the rear discs more easily
ask boof, he's just done one.
He'll also need to mount trailing arms for an IRS setup. I used indians for mine and theyve worked great for ten years or so. I used bus axles and bus cv's. Its my bus Pete is talking about.
Yes thanks...He just received an IRS kit from Indian and wanted to know what else he needs...I'm helping anyway I can...he is only 18 but has VW fever already
18 - he must have a VERY good paying job to contemplate such a major conversion...

He got the splitty out of a paddock for $300 and a complete wrx engine and adapter kit from a mates dad for $1000!...the rest is just enthusiasm
it's NOW he has to start spending!
Get some contacts & go & whore your self
see Seagull he has the adapter plates & fly wheels in stock
Kimm at Indian will give him a complete list of what second hand parts he needs from what model years. You can do it fairly cheaply but once you start to buy new bearings brake parts etc it starts to add up. He will want discs all around and a standard irs box wont last too long in a kombi. He will also find he needs adjusters on the front beam, going irs on the back lowers the bus a fair bit.
i just did the irs conversion in the back of my splitty by swapping out the rear subframe with one out of a 69 bay, which lets me run the 091 box and all the stock components, without messing about with rear end geometry. Track is slightly wider , but now it matches the 69 beam . (untill i narrow it 4 inches).
yeah thanks...he has the irs kit from indian fitted...moving on to sandblasting the shell...top marks to the kid for enthusiasm...i'll try and post some pics
