just changed my mind from building a baja to street beetle. i'm looking at the ej22. i think it's reliable enough but not sure about power. what do people think?

also more importantly, i neer done any convertion or even built a motor so......

do a search on the forum.. i remember not long ago someone posted a website link that had estimated costs associated with an engine change also.
good luck.

They have approx 105 rear wheel hp as proven in a EJ 22 powered Kombi at the recent Dyno Day here in Qld and even though that motor is in a kombi the hp will not change when fitted in a beetle or anything else it will obviosley just work better in a lighter car like a beetle.
Custom Offroad here in Qld also do a DIY kit so i would recomend giving them a call and saving your self a few headaches

What's your budget?

I got 101 hp at the rear wheels for stock EJ22 in our bus

the EJ22 only makes 130ish HP at the crank (later versions made a little more).

You'll expect to lose somewhere between 20-25% of the power through the VW gearbox and CV's, which gives you a bit over 100 at the wheels.

i think the 105 is good enough. i don't want to mess around too much with the fitting of the engine which i think the ej22 does best. or does anyone have any other suggestions?
budget is not important for the moment.

Why?? I had no budget when mine were done. I just got them done...

no budget because i take it as a long term project. since there are many upgrades to make to accept a bigger engines, there are many jobs that can slowly be done.

If you want to do as much yourself as you can you will save money, learn a lot and get a lot of satisfaction:dork: but you will need to take your time...so what i did was buy another kombi for my daily driver:lol:
