Look at what I got! - Subie!
badvw68 - January 21st, 2008 at 04:57 AM

I bought this engine sometime ago, but just havent done it. Im at the point of install, which will require some cutting of the firewall and apron and I am just a little unsure as the car is pretty nice to begin with. I restored it about 12yrs ago to show quality.

Nevertheless, attached is a few pics of the engine and car. The Subaru body identification tag is attached and I am wondering if anyone can make any since of it. I am unaware to what year the EJ20T is and that would be of some help.

Im sure I will be asking many questions when I start the project, but until then I am one heck of a lueker on all the VW/Subi sites..

Thanks guys!

Tag means nothing to me.......sorry. But if you lift up the yellow oil filler cap, it will have the year of manufacture stamped on it. Assuming it hasnt been changed at some stage.

Yep, naturally, that was missing when I got the engine. I got one off ebay from a newer model. So, being able to check the fill cap is out. GTMac - Thanks though!

I do have all the electrics, would the pictures of the black box be bennificial?

Anybody else?

Thanks!

Watcha, there's also date stamps on the cam cover plastic
Your local Scooby dealer might be able to help if you go there with the VIN plate (chassis plate?) & serial # from the ECU.

Mine (UK) got the year almost right from my ECU, 97-98.

Engine numbers are worth dick (in the UK) as far as Subaru Dealers are concerned. Could well be the same world wide.

Edit: *Quick google* "Subaru VIN codes"

It is pre 98...intake manifold tells you. probably a 96 model. Is the turbo a tdo5h? If a vf10 or similar then its off an auto.
