1970 1500 Bug - Weight??
justbrett - March 12th, 2008 at 01:53 PM

Gday All

I just spoke with our local rego guys (ACT) regarding the weight of my 1500 bug to see what kind of mischeif I can get up to when replacing an engine, keeping in mind the restrictions in place under the NCOP.

They came back and told me that the 1500's weighed 775 kgs and that's the weight they would use when assessing the cars and any conversion.

Does anyone know if this is accurate? Seems awful light to me.

Cheers

Brett

I was using the weight of 840 kg but that just what I found on Wikipedia.

Sounds about right - can't remember off the top of my head, but I would have thought about 800kg. I might be wrong though.

If I find the owner's manual for my Beetle I'll post what it says. Beetles are very light.

My rego papers on the wrx bug say 810kg. On the weigh bridge for engineering it had to be 860kg and it was 910 on the day..slight assistance.

For what it's worth the Instruction manual for my beetle says that a 1971 ish 1300 bug weighs 820kg.

By comparison, my golf apparently weighs only 780kg.

Cheers guys, seems like it might be accurate then.

Hi

I'm sure that this has been brought up on here before. Do a search on here, maybe someone has VW glove box handbook that you can show to your local authorities as proof, cant you register in NSW. The ACT weight will really affect anything that you wish to do.

I rung up the RTA (NSW) and gave them a few chassis numbers, they looked them up and told me the respective original weights.
