Porsche made their 1000+hp flat 12 back in the 70's so i guess the Japs had to copy the idea at some stage.

The 917's top speed on the track was approaching 400km/h too.

+35 years later we have a veyron, konigsegg CCX etc.

Yep amazing hey. The 917 ended the US Canam racing series because the officials were terrified by how fast the cars were so the cars were banned. Porsche also helped bring about the end of the Group B rally series when they made the 959. The cars were again going too fast to race safely.

Have you heard of the Porshe 9FF? Thats Porsche's new 1000hp car thats been built by 9ff to take the top speed record back from whoever currently holds it...
