I got 69-75Nm according to the subaru manual, which works out to be the same.

Rattle gun .

permatex blue thred lock + much less than 50ftpns of torque = broken bolt. :td:

Guess how I found this out.

I think the permatex acted like a lubricant and allowed me to tighten them up too much. I also think it might be a little stretched from previous torquing. Luckily Lee Brothers fasteners in Nth Parra had them for $3 a bolt. I'm replacing all 8 bolts and being more careful this time.

The thread lock shouldn't have caused the bolt to break, 50ftlb is 50ftlb. You using high tensile bolts?, I got grade 10.9's with my adapter.

I used my rattle gun no probs with thread lock

Hmm you must have a better rattle gun than me... Mine can't even do up my wheel nuts.

the problem was my eyes, when I found the 50 mark on the torque wrench this arvo, I failed to see the '1' in front of the '50'.

anyway, all sorted now. New bolts, properly torqued to '50' (not 150!) ftbls, thread lock on and clutched cleaned and on as well. Motor nearly ready to go back in.

Ohh ok that could do it..

So just in time to have it up and running and in action as stockton long weekend?

pete wood - September 15th, 2008 at 09:35 PM

no, no more stocko for me. I can't afford the repair bills/time. Every time I go, it costs more money to fix it. :sniffle:
