Issues with EJ25 pinout
smccask - April 4th, 2009 at 10:17 PM

Hi all,

I'm working on my second subi powered kombi and this one will be a 71 single cab lowlight ute. I have a motor and loom complete from i think a JDM Subaru Outback ~1999, it is a normally aspirated DOHC 2.5ltr so i believe it is the EJ25D (?) it had an auto gbox.

Anyhow i have searched for weeks now for a pinout or manual (or anything!) so i can sort the loom and i have found every other pinout in history but nothing for my ECU. I thought this motor woudl be easy to find a pinout for :( My ECU has three plugs that are identical in shape and have 10pins across and 4 pins high. Their colours are blue, grey and black.

I would greatly appreciate any help i can get. thanks very much in advance :)

I have a CD somewhere with the wiring diagrams for the 1999 on Gen III suby engine. I put one in my bay camper a couple of years back. Wiring was a lot more complicated than the Gen I ej22 I removed. Do you have the whole front cut with original key and immobilizer?
PM me your email & I will try getting these diagrams to you.

Yep, i have the full frontcut. that info woudl be great!email PM'd

In times like these there is only one man to talk to :

AM AUTO's
http://amauto.com.au/about.html
2/23a Project Avenue Noosaville 4566
Contact: Business hours - (07) 5455 5269

If it can be found, supplied or just wired for you as a plug in then Al is the man to do it.

could not agree more with Brad's recommendation. I didn't know Al was still doing looms, but if he is, every penny you spend with him will be worth it.

There's a pinout diagram here (last one): http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/pinouts.htm
Its for a turbo, but it may be similar enough to be of some use.
We're in safety bay too, I'll keep an eye out for ya on the road

smccask - April 6th, 2009 at 06:49 PM

thanks heaps gazman!

thats as close as i have come yet to the right one. if nothing non-turbo comes up, i think that will do the trick. yeah will keep an eye out for you around town. mine normally only does the beach run on sundays or down to bent street for a windsurf.

seagull - April 6th, 2009 at 07:15 PM

+ 1 for Al

smccask - April 6th, 2009 at 07:49 PM

thanks guys i'll give him a ring tomorrow.

if you don't have any joy, i can send the stuff to you. I have that motor in my buggy and the pinouts diagrams.

jzk25 - April 10th, 2009 at 07:50 AM

Hi guys, If your engine is JDM it will have a few pins moved around to account for the lack of immobiliser(this is a good thing). The ignition pin will be moved as will fuel pump control. When I do JDM stuff I just ID these changes from experience so can't tell you off the top of my head where they move too. Just be aware.
Turbo pinouts are not the same as NA.

I am certainly still doing wiring. I can sort any Aussie or JDM harness right up to 05 models(03 for Liberty). After that they get CanBus and E throttle and things get too complicated. EJ25 turbo in XT forester with E throttle is still doable but the wiring is epic.

Regular wiring prep is $250, post 01 turbo and NA with immobiliser is $400. E throttle stuff is up around $600.

Al.

Thanks Al, how do i know if mine has immob? $250 sounds like good value.

Pete, PM sent.

jzk25 - April 11th, 2009 at 07:00 AM

JDM stuff does not have immobiliser as a rule. Makes things easier, and cheaper.:)

This ECU took so long to sort out, being a rare motor and ECU combo (DOHC, VCT). In the end after taking the car everywhere with no luck, i sent the loom and ecu to Al (see contact details in posts above). It was no issue for him. ecu and loom came back promptly and works a treat! I HIGHLY recommend this guy for all subi-vw conversions. just send your ecu and loom, and spend the time you save on other aspects of your vw.
