Bugger! EA81 different to EA71
MR930 - April 6th, 2009 at 07:25 PM

Pulled my car to bits for a transplant. Had an EA71 adaptor plate on an old motor so thought I'd buy a EA81 motor and use that. Wrong. Theyre different, I'm not happy, they look like the same motor. Thought I'd let people know.

I had the same issue replacing a EA71 with an EA81 in a subie back in the '80s. IIRC, I fixed the difference by putting a spacer between the crankshaft and flywheel. The flange bolt pattern was the same. It was a long time ago, though, and I might have forgotten something.
