There was a synchro running around Taree a couple of years ago with a 3.6 in it ,ran very nicely & looked like a good conversion.

P.S. also a thankyou to GAZMAN for the awesome step by step can use alot of what you have shown and adapt for my type 3

Not sure if the Regency Parks lads will allow that... Plus, Subie is a smoother, lighter engine that fits the car better than an all-iron Commodore donk.

bajachris88 - May 31st, 2009 at 10:25 AM

do u have to go VN?

later series like VP rectified the bugs from the initial VN models...

Same goes with not using VR series one... would go VS motor instead.

all in all, their hp is alright... but the best factor about the commodore donk is the torque more than anything. if you wanted hp, even the later camry v6's made 20 more hp with only 3000cc...

trickysimon - May 31st, 2009 at 11:35 AM

Just put a VL turbo engine in so you can make some fullysick DOSE

you'll need some monster torsion bars to deal with that weight, sway away do 30mm .

pete wood - June 9th, 2009 at 01:13 PM

I hope you've saved up for a decent trans. that is the real cost in this conversion. I'd reckon a 2 litre combi box with a full albins gearset is what you need. if you ring them they make a ratio package especially for the holden V6 conversions. you may also want to think about a super diff or a peloquin LSD. not cheap, but otherwise you will EAT trans at a nightmarish rate.

megalania - June 9th, 2009 at 01:29 PM

The V6's look like a nice fit.Possibly an option in the future

yeah, as is common with these conversions, gearbox was out for a service

V-Dubber - July 3rd, 2009 at 10:52 PM

well the K frame should be here by next weekend if the ebayer ever responds !!!, Im looking into a Kaefer bar setup for the type 3 with no luck, so the 30mm torsion bar is looking the go, as to gearbox still trying to hunt down a 2lt box in my price range....not easy!. The motor fits in like it belongs, only one small adjustment to the back of the deck lid opening to get it almost flush with the existing box/transaxle, unlike the Kombi i dont have to adjust the rear thermo housing or move the sensors, they all sit above the opening, just need to custom some stainless piping, thats easy as I work in a winery :) and its everywere. If anyone can help with parts I can pay in wine LMAO (I dont drink the stuff.....scotch or bourbon all the way for me). as to wiring up I bought a complete VP fuse box and am looking to Custom make a dash with the VN calais Digital dash so all the looms will work together, not sure yet but its there just in case I go that way, the radiators going in the front spare wheel well, with moulded fibreglass bumper/forced air intakes. Roll cage is still in production, hope to have pics to post in here. Let the good times ROLL!

pete wood - July 4th, 2009 at 08:26 PM

here's what 20bkombi did with his.

V-Dubber - July 4th, 2009 at 10:57 PM

looks close to what I had envisioned very nice sleeper :)

V-Dubber - May 6th, 2010 at 11:53 PM

Well its been a while the project was put on hold for a while as we have moved twice in 3 months, the shed is being built as we speak (am doing this myself), once the sheds up the 3 comes out of storage and back into restoration/customization, will have some new pics up for everyone shortly after its settled and de-stressed :)

ernie norley - May 8th, 2010 at 10:41 AM

Gday kombisaint I have converted a t3 synchro for a mate with an ej20 turbo moyor approx 6 years ago it is now on its 3rd gear box it goes extremley well. when its going. He has bought 2 syncro's to use for parts in the transmission side of it He is currently looking at the new subaru conversion on the reverse crown wheel & pinion as a strongerb alternative to the t3 box

ian.mezz - May 8th, 2010 at 11:48 AM

I would keep away from the old VN/VP motors as there getting on to being 20 year old and they were already a 27 year old Buick motor before Holden stuck their name on em :crazy::crazy:

gazman - May 10th, 2010 at 11:36 AM

Hey VN/VP motors are a good choice, they are strong and reliable, easy to retrofit the engine management system, easy to get parts or even replacement motors. Sure they're heavy and a little on the thirsty side but where else are you gonna get that sort of power & torque for that price?. If they were $hit motors there wouldn't be so many of the damn things on the road...
