Hi Guys,
I know this isn't VW (well technically it is, with VW taking over Porsche), but does anyone know where to obtain information on transplanting a Subaru WRX block and transmission into a Porsche 944?
I have been surfing the net to no avail, I would have thought that it would have been done somewhere??
Cheers

Hi
The problem with Subaru motor is the width, it may not fit in the engine bay, I reckon a Lexus V8 or Nissan turbo 4 would be a better conversion.
Steve
my thoughts: 1) why bother? you can get way more power from a late model turbo engine 2) the 944 has the gear box out back so you would need to make
use of that or put a diff out back.
good luck

Craig , There was a guy just down the road from that did this . He has now removed the subaru motor & went back to stock. I can see if he still has the gear for you

Craig,
An SR20DET of RB26DET conversion would be way better choices than Subaru for a 944. And as Steve said, your stuck with the Porsche box as it's out
the back. You could replace it with a front box but there would be major modifications required.
Or 1JZGTE toyota like this one;

Neil, I don't know how a Subaru was wedged in there, it's a pretty narrow looking engine bay.
You can also buy an LS1 V8 conversion kit;
http://www.autoatlanta.com/ - search for "944 conversion"
That Toyota option looks good, the guy's web build is interesting. I wonder if he or anyone else has the conversion kits for sale.
I take it the Toyota Donk would be mounted to the 944 gearbox?
Toyota donk would be a much better option... I like it Wes...
Hi Guys,
Thanks heaps for your discussion and presentation of options, I initially had only really thought of a Subaru donk!
Some further questions:
* Any ideas on price of a 1JZGTE?
* What would be a ball-park estimate on costs of a project such as this, given that I don't have the skillset to do it myself?
* Does anyone know of someone in Melbourne capable of this work?
Thanks guys,
Cheers
Craig
