EJ20E into a 1303
subever - January 28th, 2010 at 08:57 PM

To start off,

My english sucks, 'cause I'm a flying dutchmen. Because this forum isn't to anti-conversion(duh) I wanted to start off a topic here.
The bug is a 1303 '73, the engine a basic EJ20E from a legacy.
I'm going to build in a supercharger just for kicks.
I'll try to post some pictures here off how far I'm right now.
wish me luck

It's a kit from Raptor superchargers.. In a subi it's plug&play, in the enginebay off the beetle it's a different story.
I pulled out the powersteering unit, and i'm trying to get to fit in that space... It does mean you can't flip the intakemanifold but he, that's what an angle grinder is invented for?... I dit a test-fitting and it clears everything(just....) I'm drawing a new mounting-bracket in Solid Works and having it made custom for me. They will provide me with the plates(flowjet) and I'll be welding everything together

Joel - January 28th, 2010 at 09:30 PM

ah yeah, those raptors are pretty compact
mines an roots blower and is about 20mm to long to mount in the a/c compressor location
but id rather A/C than a blower

most dont bother flipping the intake, theres easy ways around it, and they're less work than remounting the alternator, rerouting all the wiring etc

Roots blower is to bigg... Well here in the Netherlands id rather have a heater than an A/C. The climat here is a bit different from Australia... I took the liberty off stealing, uh I wanted to say borrow.. on of your idea's.... Flipping the throttle house... Lines up perfectly with the original throttle cable..

You could also look at the superchargers from rotrex. Very powerfull, pretty small...

Well both off you have a strong point... But our climate is a bit different(shitty) from yours... So I ditchted the aircon and the powersteering(need the fitness)

Going to do some work today so I'll take the camera...

Hey Steve, I hope so... Subi power rocks! The price difference in getting more power from an aircooled engine was also a big motivator

dont worry i'll steal one back and copy your intank fuel pump setup

are those internal baffles in your tank?
i know my current take has them cos its a nightmare to try and get the sender floats in with them but my spare tank which is earlier doesnt
dont know how necessary theyre gonna be
i never let my tanks get below 1/4

Better late then never,

Those are the internal baffles... It's a pain in the but to get the pumpunit in there... But when it's in, it's in hahaha. Their not really necessary but this was the tank that was in the beetle to begin with.. I already welded everything in there al take some pictures so you get the idea.

As much power as I can get....
I have stock EJ20E, raptor supercharger kit, Rancho gearbox..(looking for a G50) main reason for the brakes(they were cheap!) and because of the big ass rims i wanted something to fill up the space(duh)hahaha, All I know is that I'm pretty happy with the brakes...
