ian.mezz - January 30th, 2010 at 01:49 PM

get the air/con installed as well and youll have one cool Kombi.

Joel - January 30th, 2010 at 02:04 PM

no pun intended

Sweet, you and ash will love it even more now

is it missing the powersteering/alt bracket or is just not on the engine?
i "might" still have the one off my old motor if you's need

kombibob - January 30th, 2010 at 02:08 PM

no its cool the bracket came in a box of spares.
thanks anyway

colonel mustard - January 30th, 2010 at 04:04 PM

plans on rad mounting position?? will sure make it nicer to drive :) Good luck!

STIDUB - January 30th, 2010 at 09:30 PM

saw this at micks motors one time, if your going under body rad like customveedubs setup im curious how well it will work cos it was daaaammmmnnnn low when i saw it there, ps get 17" radars with the bolt circle painted black, would look F****** HOT!

kombibob - January 30th, 2010 at 09:50 PM

rad housing will be in the treasure chest.
cool air will come from the high roof vents and extra ducting, warm air will exit via a hole cut in the treasure chest floor.
i have a nice compact 4 core rad from a corvette that i hope will do the trick.
i will probably have to wind up the rear slightly even with the cvd sump but i hope to have no sign of a subi conversion from the outside.

warb - January 30th, 2010 at 09:56 PM

cept the sound tho...

kombibob - January 30th, 2010 at 10:04 PM

the ratteling of the drop gates should drown out the sound of the subi... lol

colonel mustard - January 30th, 2010 at 10:05 PM

Do people pay attention to the sound when they are near/following el concreto? I'd say that would be the last thing on my mind.

kombibob - January 30th, 2010 at 10:08 PM

i think they are more concerned something will fall off and hit them

warb - January 30th, 2010 at 10:08 PM

haha, keen to see where this heads tho..

colonel mustard - January 30th, 2010 at 10:12 PM

sorry for questioning you, alot - but is this a long term sort of process, and - do you aim (like joel did) to be able to swap over with very minimal work...

kombibob - January 30th, 2010 at 10:24 PM

i have every thing i need minus the short sump to do the job, and the best thing is so many people like joel have done the conversions now that most probs can be answered, so i'm hoping that once i start it wont take too long.
i just have to get the new mk2 gti on the road and put a motor back in the other split and i'm on to it.

and i guess i should start thinking about a disc brake conversion too hey?

kaiisons - February 18th, 2010 at 06:58 PM

How's this coming along?

still waiting to get a weekend free to start :(
taking the old boy to dubs so will take him off the road and throw his motor in the other split next weekend.

kombibob - March 7th, 2010 at 09:09 PM

ok the old motor is out and back in the 'G' ready for her new owner.
so i started on the coversion this weekend, pulled off the sump to take to cvd for shortening and also sent off the flywheel and cluch for balancing/ machining.
one afternoon this week i will replace timming belt and water pump and next weekend i will do the first fit up.

colonel mustard - March 7th, 2010 at 09:52 PM

Looking good.

Off road till finished then??

No more air cooled's...?

kombibob - March 21st, 2010 at 05:03 PM

ok finished all my other projects so it will be full steam ahead on this now.
did my first trial fit today and it slipped in nice with out any cutting, i will have to trim a little of the rear valance but thats ok its pretty well stuffed anyway. also decided on a rack and pinion convesion to go with the disck brake setup.

chippy - March 22nd, 2010 at 09:31 PM

is that a CAT-alytic converter ?? PMSL
cheers Todd :D

kombibob - March 23rd, 2010 at 03:30 PM

took today off work to start cutting!!
cut the opening in the floor and in the air channel, will have to seal off the air channel after the cut so air is directed through the radiator only.
now i have to make up a frame to hold the rad and enclose it with a opening door to service the fan.
i also trimmed up the rear valance.

vwsteve - March 23rd, 2010 at 03:59 PM

is that a devon rex or a cornish rex?we had a few of them, they have good personalities, i prefer air cooled but each to their own:cool:

kombibob - March 23rd, 2010 at 04:27 PM

hey steve,
she is a sphynx they also have great personalities, more like a dog than a cat.
yep i also prefer air cooled but cant afford the cash to build a 100hp+ aircooled motor.
cheers
bob

pete wood - March 29th, 2010 at 02:43 PM

not a high flow can then.... ha ha ha

are you putting a gurney flap or similar under the car to draw the hot air out?

kombibob - April 5th, 2010 at 08:34 PM

no its a copper 4 core out of a corvette will give it a go with a flap under the front to help the venturi effect also have a couple of ides to catch some more air if needed.

fitted the rack and pinion steering today also mounted the 5 in 1 tacho, water temp gauge etc plus fan and engine check lights.
also fitted the short sump and detailed the engine ready to go back in.
does any one have any good pics of non reversed throttle body linkages as i have plenty of room so will try it stock.
cheers,
bob
