Big, dumb, stupid NA ej motors? (attn seagull)
pete wood - May 11th, 2010 at 09:02 PM

Is anyone building em?

What would it take to get an EJ25 NA to pull 8000rpm and 300hp on premium pump fuel?

What stroker cranks/big bore pistions are available for them?

A good question for seagull for sure.....

I would start with head work and manifold...

haha...they produce bugger all in standard form, good luck in getting those numbers !

Torrens: Well you should know about motors that produce "bugger all". You've got a shed full of em!

JVL: i've heard the heads flow great numbers standard, so surely cams would be the first things... which unfortunately means instant aftermarket ECU. Then yes, some ITBs... mmmm, ITBs...

Pete, they punch 200hp stock with only aftermarket management
300 might be aiming a bit high staying N/A but i reckon you could get close by bumping up the CR, bigger injectors, some decent headwork, better cams, port the intake and exhaust and get a well designed header system made up etc

alot of work though, do you really need that much power in a buggy?

"need" is an interesting word. "want" is probably closer. :D

Joel, are you talking atw or flywheel ?

matberry - May 11th, 2010 at 11:48 PM

Think he's talking about those little japanese horsepowers. lol

mactaylor - May 12th, 2010 at 06:40 AM

good idea pete a stripped down ej 25 with ITB's would make for an interesting project heads have got plenty of meat for porting and aftermarket OS valves are cheapish, cams no probs, would sound great to!

rocknrob - May 12th, 2010 at 07:12 AM

SC14? why be pedantic about NA?

pete wood - May 12th, 2010 at 11:28 AM

Simple rob. I can't go turbo/blown on my motor legally. Besides, NA motors are a different animal but they are still good fun.

I'm sure Craig and Matt would agree with me on that.

Paul here in perth is building a 2.5 n/a motor ( 257 sti block ) sti con rods with 2009 legacy heads, plastic inlet manifold , mechanical throttle body, headers
I gave him a set of STI bug eye cams tonight, they fit the heads but need to check the lift ect
The ecu is a mega squirt, he is looking for 200+ hp
