high idle ej22
kombibob - June 10th, 2010 at 08:59 AM

hey guys,
took the ute for a big run yesterday all was going good but after about a hour of driving the idle jumped up to about 1200 rpms and has remained there.
also it has thrown fault codes for the icv and purge.
i still have not fitted the vss but up until now that has only thrown the light when coasting to a stop.
any ideas, should i remove and clean the icv?
cheers,
bob

throttle cable not caught on something maybe?

just check and make sure the throttle body is clean around the butterfly and not all black.
if it got a idle srcew just turn the idle down:crazy::crazy:
you don't need a speed sensor

Bob, it's a good idea to clean them anyway, they always have shit in them regardless of KMs
I;ve put of doing mine and now get a bouncy idle sometimes when hot.

with the purge error check the plug is good with the solenoid, thats about the only thing that normally throws that code

but the high idle check your ICV hose doesnt have a kink or blockage in it.
Usually has the opposite effect but stranger things have happened

thanks all,
gave it a clean today and idle seems fine now.
but the tired noisy old box didnt like me racing one of the commonwhore boys from work yesterday and is leaking oil, so its coming out again and swapping for my single sideplate.
and yes the old boy did over the commonwhore:lol:

Gidday Bob, I have had similar issues with erratic idle with ej22 in T3.
I gave it a dose of "SUBARU UPPER ENGINE CLEANER",
$20/can 15 minutes problem solved.
