Which Gearbox EJ22
MR930 - June 26th, 2010 at 08:40 PM

Just wondering which gearbox has the best ratios for an EJ22 running 17in wheels. Its going in a Kombi but I have no problem fitting a single sideplate Beetle box if that has the best ratios.

I have an adaptor plate and flywheel for a 091 box conversion....and a modified Subaru starter that bolts straight up to it !!!

Yes Single side plate superbug box is the best. it has the talest top gear ratio they goe quite well with a EJ22.

If it is going in a bus, then a 2 litre bus box will be a great way to handle the power. Albins gears will make almost any ratio you want. It bolts straight into the bus too.

Or you could actually use the Subaru 5 speed gearbox that was designed and made for the EJ22. No need for fancy Albins gears, custom flywheels and adapter plates. Here's a short video that gives you some idea of how well it goes on the freeway.
