Oil pressure problem!!!
Bugaru03 - July 16th, 2010 at 10:23 PM

Few help because I’m going to be crazy:grind::grind::grind::grind:

After a new rebuild that I had made in EJ20NA 125hp i thought it’s time to place an oil pressure gauge in order to see if everything is normal.
I took from friend a sgear gauge including valve, working at 7bar.
All good up to here!
Then I cold start the engine and see oil pressure 6.0bar!
Beautifully I say…then progressively and without having oil temperature gauge, the pressure starts to fell progressively (with exterior temperature at 37c) and after 15-20 minutes reached in 1 bar and afterwards.................. the needle stuck in absolute zero!!!!!!!!!!!!
Warning oil light has not turned on and when I accelerated the gas pedal, for example the pressure went up until 3.5bar and had roughly 3,000 turns.
When however I had no gear in transmission or I stopped the car then the needle with difficulty it is above zero or zero.

What the fu$#%^@k is going on here, with introducing brand new OEM Subaru oil pump and semi synthetic oil 10W 40 Fuchs.

Any suggestions please?

Rgrds,
Jim

incorrect maching & bearing clearances
oil pump screws loose on back of pump , the valves jaming with debre ( I understand its a new pump )
o,rings missing from the two casings halfs
modified oil pick up ? and sump ?< size of sump ?

if its not the pump , you will need to strip the motor down

I would screw a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the oil pressure sender, the type that mechanics use. Thats what I did when I had my engine rebuilt years ago. Don't rely on your in car electric item. Use the mechanical type, then u can also claibrate & check your electric gauge.
Hopefully it's as simple as the gauge playing up.

Thanks Jak! That's exactly i have in my mind to do.

Let's see what numbers i get....

Just for history....i have attached a new oil mechanical gauge and i get the same numbers...

But then a big relief came up when i've read the subaru manual and see the numbers given from the factory..

at idle with 80c oil temperature in 600rpm it says 1bar = 14psi.

So, i dont think i need to worry!

New nippon oil filter and semi synthetic oil 15w 50 introduced.

Despite of that what are the numbers you guys get in your scooby??

I'm Surprised the warning light switch is only set to 2.1psi  even the stock vw one is 5psi

anyway both of mine ran about 20psi at idle and 70-80psi at 3000rpm at 80c

thats why I run a 2.1L wasserboxer pressure switch, it screws straight in.
