Hey All,
I thought pulling the old wrx engine out and sticking in the 2002 motor would take a couple of weeks....nearly 5 months later and she is finally ready
to go to the dyno...
I wired in the new ecu from scratch so I could keep the whole harness, ignition module and map sensor for the superbug we are doing. Guess what...with
the sequential fire 2002 program, you do not even have to swap 2 and 4 cylinders around...imagine that!
Dyno is booked for monday, so I am just running it till its hot and checking for leaks etc...all good so far...will keep you posted.
Couple of pics below...
old engine.....sorry about the crappy pic.
new engine....lots different.
2002 engine..
Manifold tgv delete and port
aftermarket rails and boof split hose design
pink sti injectors
ported exhaust
custom up pipe/turbo offset position.
td05 straight intake...ported intake/wastegate/exhaust housing.
turbosmart plumb back bov
turbosmart raising rate pressure reg
microtech lt10s
don't forget the boof blue manifold for extra power
you were the one that blue all over it...that was a pg moment.
Good work, looks yery neat.
Microtech's are easy to wire and tune.
The LT10s has a few more auxiliaries too.
Monday can't come quick enough.
Thanks.....
if only we could register bugs with 20b's...crazy stuff would be going on.
Next step will be to get Todd to bring up a race prep wrx box to the shed, get him drunk and swap it for the dummy box we have been using for test
fitting.
The few extra aux functions are handy for anti lag/water spray/ nos...
look what happens when you are waiting for monday...push button engine start... just working out a way so you dont have to hold it in... just push it
like new audis and it cranks till motor fires or detects tacho pulse.
I still have friday and saturday to do more stupid stuff to it.
After pulling the engine due to clutch noises relating to a new disc I got from the states and replacing the throw out with a german one... be
carefull who you buy things off in sydney...alot of cheap chinese shit going around that is being passed off as genuine.
Went to dyno on wednesday.... didnt go crazy with boost took it to just over 16psi and it made just under 180kw. We did not push the car at all in
terms of advancing the timing and playing with high boost. I am going to take it back in a few weeks time and do another couple of runs with a water
spray on the cooler to attempt to get the temps closer to what they are on the street. As i am off boost 80% of the time, and the ridiculous cooling
from the scoops, my airtemps are freezing. Cruising around today they were 4 degrees... if i boost it up hard they may get to 12 degrees. On the dyno
they were 25 as i had a fan ducted into one side and the other blocked off.... as soon as i drove down the street they dropped to 9 and the thing had
a lean hesitation. I have been just adding over all mix trim % when really cold and it seems to help.
Regardless the car screams... as quick as before off the line although now pulls really hard to redline where it ran out off puff a bit before. The
tdo5 comes standard on the early evos with 16.5 psi and about 19psi on the newer ones so they are good upto about 22psi.
Went to a new dyno guy and not convinced he spent as much time on the fine tune as my old guy... may change back for the next trip.
See you on the road kids....
Matt
Did you know Mike Kristen at CBB has in house Dyno and has been tuning Microtech for about 10 years, and also has done work with subi moters.
He's been looking after my engie and tuning for about 8 years, seeing it go from n/a with Micritech ECU to now turbo charged with same ECU. Yeh its
not a subi but tuning is tuning. He's worked on all sort of issues with my set up, from improving air intake temps, feul regs, ignition and change of
set up going from dual throttle body set up to single and is now producing over 200hp at the wheels, which I gotta say, is a shit load of fun, and is
getting to over 170kph over the quarter.
Give him a call and least have a chat
Evo turbo is good for 25-26psi.

Any tips on installing the Microtech ?? Do you know if there is any difference in the standard start up tune between the EJ20T and EJ22TT ?? Not much
info in the States and I really want to get this thing going.
Thanks
