Rover V8 sand rail.

I am building a VW based buggy. It is the full tube frame sand rail style. I have built most of the frame and have just bought a 3.5 litre alloy Rover V8 as the power plant. I can measure up and do all the calcs but has anyone already done this and willing to share dimensions etc for the adaptor plate and flywheel. Also after any other tips on maybe strengthening the transaxle. This is the second one I have built the first being about 28 years ago. This my friends dubbed MadMac. Now I have offspring the same age as I was when I built the first. They are just as interested as I was. Lifes great when your kids share the same interests. Cheers. MadMacII.

When I pulled the Suby motor out of the wreck the other day I was looking at the size of the Subies torque convertor and the size of the one on the spare Rover 3.5L V8 sitting there on the floor for my Daihatsu 4wd ute winch challenge project truck. I even broke out the tape measure and I reckon I could mate them up pretty easy.

Of course with the Suby auto transaxle I'd have to mid mount the V8. So now I have been thinking of what to mount it in. I was thinking a sand rail or buggy but now I am thinking of a mid engined track car for a bit of fun. You know, something small and light that handles nice, like a Kombi:lol:

No you wouldn't. I am just about to start testing the first reversed Subie auto box to see what sort of power it will handle. Shouldn't be too many months until there are some results.

I am building the kombi for my father in law and he asked me if we could do it with the Suby auto and I told him we couldn't do it. If you need a test mule kombi that has an auto suby box spare to do the swap.............:lol:
