Location of charcoal canister?
General_Failure - February 21st, 2011 at 11:35 AM

G'day. '75 camper with EA81 motor.
I've been collecting bits to complete the setup. A couple of days ago I got a vacuum purge valve to go along with the charcoal canister I pulled from an EFI Magna. If you are wondering it is the same as from a carb'd Magna. It just has a rubber plug over the float bowl connector.
The Magna setup should be compatible if not better than the Subaru canister. Problem is I can't figure out a good place to put it!
Where do people usually stash these things?

I'll also add I know very little about charcoal canisters besides how they work. So I have a few guesses here which I need confirmation / denial on:

The big holes in the bottom are for air throughput so the canister can filter the vapour from the mix passing through it.
Do the holes also drain if things go wrong or can I mount it sideways?
Does it need a clear path to the ground? Can stuff drip from it?
Would putting it anywhere above the exhaust be an amazingly stupid idea?

Slight update. I have it temporarily attached to one of the cold air intake pipe brackets near the battery. It's sitting sideways.
