They're $700 now but are well worth it.

Thanks I thought Sherman would be the go.

Have you had a look at the subaru bellhousings for the kombi box.... does away with the adaptor

bugzla - February 13th, 2012 at 07:22 PM

got mine for $50 bucks

I've had one on ebay recently, complete with a Subaru Liberty for $1200. You could get a permit and drive it home.

They are more expensive, but you don't have the problem of the adaptor out of line, and you get to use the standard Subaru flywheel, starter etc

These ones are available in Brisbane

They are certainly a much better option than adapter plates, the down side is Kombi gearing sucks in a street bug unless you enjoy that Mack truck driving experience.

Shane has a Baja Bug with a kombi box already installed

Has anyone used or heard feedback on Trik offroad products EJ Adaptor Kits ??

Joel - March 6th, 2012 at 01:34 PM

One lesson I learned the hard way is don't cheap out on adaptor kits, just get one of Volksconversions adaptors and fit and forget.

I'll explain my tale of woe in my SubaBeetle thread

11CAB - March 6th, 2012 at 01:44 PM

Unfortunately I've heard of quite a few unhappy customers of VolksConversions adaptor plates

Joel - March 6th, 2012 at 02:00 PM

Well I couldn't be happier with mine unless I'd bought it in the first place instead of Seagulls.

They can't be all bad, there's only a bazillion of them out there after more than 30 years.

mackaymanx - March 6th, 2012 at 09:08 PM

Sorry I have had 3 Shermann Plates (1x EA82, 2x EJ) and have been dissapointed with the machining. I have a KEP plate also and it is a piece of art in comparison.

If you go the bellhousing route, I found SmallCar are good to deal with directly.

Question for 11cab, who in Brisbane does the bell housing adaptor?

1303Steve - March 17th, 2012 at 07:36 AM

Hi

You can always try long time VW Nationals sponsor Unicap 02 4777 4006.

Thanks lovebuggy,
Glad I can get it from an hour away, only question I have is and I have never bought overseas as always prefer local, but how much is freight from us? The kit is $574 in America as opposed to $990. It's only 300 bucks really and they have been through the hassle of getting it here, advertising on their site paying to have them on hand etc, etc.

Only asking. Still so much better than adaptor plate.
