ej20t kombi fuel tank question
nitronugget - February 28th, 2012 at 09:04 AM

Hi all, so I will be putting a ej20t in my bay kombi and need to figgure out what im going to do with the fuel tank.
Some are moving the tank to under the seat so the intercooler + turbo sits in its stock location but im thinking airflow to this would be terrible and there would be too much heat in there. Has anyone moved their turbo + intercooler somewhere else rather then moving the fuel tank? any ideas on how i can acheive this?
Just trying to see some other ideas of what other people have done. have spent the last week searching forums without much luck.

Hi

Some people are using the water 2 air intercooler from earlier Libertys, they cure the airflow issue. Jak Rizzo went that way on his bug.

You could go this way with custom piping to move the intercooler from the stock Subaru location or even go to a custom water 2 air intercooler.

As Stevie said, I used a RS Liberty water to air intercooler on my wrx engine. 2 good reasons why, it's a direct bolt on with no mods needed, it also only cost $150 from SSS automotive, that included the radiator.

Jak

best option for the fuel tank is leave it where it is...

instead rotate your inlet manifold 180 and stick the turbo at the back...

plenty of room for the intercooler over under the left airvent and you can have your intake there as well all sealed off from heat and dust..

exhaust opposite side...nice big quiet muffler....

mainly just fabricating the manifold...this one is out of gal water pipe...been going 4 or 5 years...

good luck let me know if you want to go this way...

interesting.... whats your clearance like underneith? is that piping lower then the modded sump?
Is that in a type 2?

Wonder if i could have the intercooler in that spot but run all the piping and have the turbo somewhere underneith / behind the engine for appearance.
