Beetle Subamount now released!
Subarugears - October 7th, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Hi all,
http://www.subarugears.com  is proud to announce the release of the new Subamount for beetles. This provides a bolt-in rear mount for all Subaru engine and transmission conversions.

Made from three parts of 6mm steel, CNC laser cut and folded into shape. These parts use a tab/slot system to ensure perfect alignment before being MIG welded into place. After welding, the external welds are polished down and a bright gold coating is applied to the Subamount.

The Subamount design provides a folded underside for additional engine mount support and stiffness in all directions. Additionally, 4 x laser cut holes are provided on the underside for an engine and/or transmission "bash plate" to be attached by bolts or nuts/bolts.

These are now in stock and available for $200 AUD delivered to your door via TNT.

Optimised torsion bar location (as close as possible!) :

Optimised shift rod location (clears above torsion bar and clears below sheet metal). (This photo is taken without any nose mount - just the Subamount holding it in the perfect location) :

Perfect clearance for Subaflanges in both type 2/4 and type 930. Both IRS and non-IRS pan horns can be used :

Use the upper mounting holes to lower the driveline and use extended length Subaflanges. The lower driveline allows quad cam engines to fit under the rear decklid :

Further development of a bolt-in/weld-in nose mount and double jointed shift rod connector is being undertaken and should be available down the track.

oh man, this is awesome!

well done Todd.

I better start saving for my Raby package so I get these too.

Hi Todd

Will these also work with the standard vw transmission, ie just an extra support for the wrx engine?

Subarugears - October 8th, 2012 at 07:22 PM

Hey Jak, great question - not sure of the answer. Doubt it will work in conjunction with an existing banana mount - but it should be able to replace one and hold the driveline in stronger.

I have plenty here if someone wants one to fit into a completed build and document it.

Aloha Todd,

Congratulations! You have done it again. Now I have to figure out should I get it from you or wait until Raby gets them in the US ?

Up to you Greg - there won't be any difference in price to you.

Todds gear looks great But
i dont think so, as a beetle box looks like it sits lower.???

You never know until you actually put one in a car.
You can probably use the upper mounting holes to have the engine lower and keep the VW trans higher when using an adaptor plate.
Doesn't faze me much - it's designed for Subie engines & Trans.
I guess I don't really want to encourage Subie engines and VW trans if I can help it.... :-)

How much for the box modded to fit in

Subarugears - November 6th, 2012 at 04:37 AM

Terry, depends on what box you need, which depends on what engine you want to run.
Pricing for our different fully built gearboxes is on the website in the Products section.

Hi Todd,

How about a mount kit for a 914? Is that on the cards at all?

Regards

Craig

Nope, no plans whatsoever. There's a guy on 914world forums already doing them - they look pretty good!

Yep, seen them but wondering whether there may be a local option. Still debating the merits of both another 914 and this engine change.....
