I have just purchased some IPF spotlights with the intent of fitting them to the manx. But first i have questions for the more educated:
1. The manx still runs a genny. Will an alternator conversion be worth the money or will a large battery suffice (also I have purchased a UHF radio to
be fitted as well).
2. If an alternator is the go is there anything i should know first before my visit to micks motors (a 4 hr drive away).
thanks in advance guys........Travin

An Alternator upgrade is always going to be a benefit, as the genny will only be about 30amps whereas the alternator should be about 51 amps, the alt also cranks out the power right from idle whereas the genny needs the revs up a bit
Thanks mate..... thought as much, im on my way to brissy in the morn so I may as well stop in at mick motors and pick up a kit- beter safe 'n' sorry. :bounce
Well I bought an alternator from micks- went to fit today and ran into a drama :cussing the bloody 36mm nut on the fan was done up so tight I sheared the key from the genny shaft right off. And the bosch alternator I bought dosnt come with a key supplied-is this normal?
Well The generator key was not too much of a problem to track down... now its time to sort out the wiring :o why is it every vw i've owned has a technicolour spaggetty mess instead of a wiring harness?:o It turned out easier to re-wire the rear end of the car from scratch. But all is good now- its just a 2-3hour job turned into a 2-3 day job.
