What to look for when buying a Manx....
phantom - November 2nd, 2004 at 07:29 AM

I am hoping to have someone have a look at a Manx for me in the near future. Advice I have is that it is not fully assembled, is a rolling shell, and that all of the parts are present.

What type of thing should they be looking for? I'll be wanting them to check on things like that it is actually a rolling shell, engine is bolted in, steering and brakes present, and that the body is secure (for the trailer ride home). What specific issues are there that I should be looking for? I assume the engineering certificate is done when it is complete and ready for rego, is this correct? Anything to do with the chassis?

Anything else I need to look at? Thanks....

You should make sure it has got an engineers certificate now and verify with you local rego mob it can still be reregistered or you could be buying an expensive bush basher.

Mate just ask for previous rego papers.
See if the engine numbers and chassis numbers match the papers if it has any.
If it has papers and the numbers don't match you might have to do some re stamping;)

I have bought 3 recently and have sold 2 on.
I only bought them to move them onto owners who will do something with them.

I am working on another one that i have come across in the last few months but the guy is a bit of a stickler.
He has owned it since 1975 and is atarting to get to old to get in and out of it.

It is a swb MK1 supa sports buggy, light blue in colour.

But if you want a reasonably cheap buggy that is regoed.
contact Lardo on this forum (neil) is his name
he has a purple J&S for sale at the moment.
