torsion bars
Mrs M - November 14th, 2004 at 10:00 PM

do torsion bars go soft?????? i just rotated my rear spring plates down 1 inner spline and it raised the rear up heaps...... but after 1 trip down the coast and slight foray off road on the trip home the bars have settled back to where they were. About a quarter inch off the stops. I'm a bit mistified as it has coil overs on the back too but has still sagged, any ideas?

I know what you mean, that is just settling. Winding it up more again this time might help, say 2 splines this time.

but it sounds like you might need some stiffer ones like type three ones.

just out of curiosity does anybody know the difference in diameter between beetle irs torsion bars and type tree ones??????? and is it true that square back ones are the biggest?

Check and make sure you have them in the right side, they are marked L & R. Sounds silly but mine ended up doing the exact same thing evrytime we adjusted them , one trip and it was sitting on its arse again.

Checked found them wrong changed them and no more problems.....
