I've got a baja - from wa ;)(brang it over from ballarat though :duh ). But it's currently in no condition to go on a trip. I've seen this real swarv baja in Freo a few times and another time i saw a red/orange one on the great eastern highway. Us baja riders are in the west :P our numbers are just scarce that's all.

wacked1 - December 3rd, 2004 at 05:59 PM

i got mine from WA but don't know if you would consider it a baja bus or not ???

11CAB - December 3rd, 2004 at 06:58 PM

There's plenty of baja bugs, but i doubt there are any baja buses.

I'll stand up and be counted. I've got a baja. I'd love to go on a trip sometime but beign a bit further away can make it a bit harder to get organised. I reckon it would be great though.

So yeh. There must be a fair few people around with offroad vws surely? Just a matter of tracking em down?

Desert Bug - December 6th, 2004 at 10:54 PM

G'day,
Thanks for the plug Andy. Yeah don't forget Me, you can't get much more offroad than where I live, at the junction of the Canning Stock Route and the Tanami Track in the Great Sandy Desert, and with an Offroad Splitty no less.
We are looking into a couple of trips down the CSR and the Kimberlys (Gibb River road) next dry season ('05).
We're driving to Darwin for Christmas in the Desert Splitty (about 1500ks each way) with trailer in tow to pick up some s/h tyres and stuff.
Cheers, Ian.

I have always wanted to do a trip with Baja's and Buggies going from Perth to Wolf Creek Crater..

I plan to call it,

"Wolfsburg to Wolf Creek"...

It would take a lot of planning, but it sure would be some fun...!!!!
I'll put you down for it Moose...:)

64vwmark - January 2nd, 2005 at 08:06 PM

I'd love to be a part of it. I would need a fair bit of notice though as I might need to get holidays, depending on when it happens.

WABaja - January 3rd, 2005 at 04:41 AM

Yeah I can't see it happening anytime soon, as it's one of those things that would take an aweful lot of planning with many things (including Fuel drops) to be organized, but one day, one day...
It would be a trip of a lifetime though...

64vwmark - January 3rd, 2005 at 04:53 AM

Yeah, would definetly be a trip of a lifetime. I would need time to prep my car and get some spares together too. The major thing is getting my bar work done but I'm working on this, might get get a spare windscreen made up too.

WABaja - January 3rd, 2005 at 04:59 AM

Yes... Spare screen is one thing I learnt my lesson on after having one busted out in the middle of No where and wouldn't you know it, a farmer about 30 K's out of Mukinbuddin had an old beetle in his back paddock,..!!!
Gave him 20 bucks for the screen, fitted it in the paddock as the sun was going down, and off we went on our merry way...
Ahhh Good days them...:thumb

WABaja - January 3rd, 2005 at 05:00 AM

hhhmmm... OK, now, Country Buggies ya say...

Well, have a look at what I went and grabbed off a farm out the back of Toodyay for a guy, not so long ago, and before you ask, there were only 2 there and YES he took the both of them...
Restoration has already begun and what started as a plan to build one and scrap the other now looks like a plan to build 2...

64vwmark - January 3rd, 2005 at 05:17 AM

I could handle having a couple of those things sitting around in my back yard! No split screen Kombi's sitting next to them? Or maybe a split window beetle or original meyers manx..........

What a find!

Would be good to see these two on the trip to the Wolf Creek Crater.

Do you know how much he paid for them??

WABaja - January 3rd, 2005 at 05:32 AM

Don't know what they cost him and I don't think they'll be seeing too much dirt in their future lives...

64vwmark - January 3rd, 2005 at 05:51 AM

I hope they end up being driven. Would be good to see one out on the road.

StenGuns - January 3rd, 2005 at 10:03 AM

I want to set up a crewcab to take on the 2005 Variety Club Bash.. Still planning but will try and take action soon.. Trouble is it has to be a 68-70 to be eligible (that is unless its a split).. Got my eye on a couple of candidates.. What a blast it will be (hope I'm ready).. Anyone want to join in?

64vwmark - January 11th, 2005 at 01:57 PM

Just got back from work after a week of nightshift. Feel like crap but must stay up today unless I want to be nocturnal for the next few days.

Anyone feel like going off road run somewhere near Perth on Sat 22nd or Sun 23rd? Nothing too serious just for fun.

Desert Moose - January 11th, 2005 at 02:32 PM

that sounds like a good idea, do you have somewhere in mind

64vwmark - January 11th, 2005 at 02:41 PM

Maybe some of the tracks up in the hills? Saw some this morning when I flew in which looked interesting, but I haven't been out there before so I don't know my way around. I've been in the pines up near Yanchep which is ok.

Any suggestions?

Was thinking of something not too serious but just a bit of fun. Maybe meet somewhere at lunchtime and then go off road for most of the afternoon.

Desert Moose - January 11th, 2005 at 02:48 PM

what about the power lines at mundaring ? I know my way around up there and I could take my Jeep as backup (just in case). We could all meet at sawyers valley or midland @ 9.30am that way we could make a day of it(back by 3.30 hopefully) What do you think.

64vwmark - January 11th, 2005 at 02:56 PM

That sounds like a good plan!

What day would be best? Sun 23rd??

It doesn't matter to me as I have a few weeks off but have plans for this weekend already.

Desert Moose - January 11th, 2005 at 03:06 PM

I think Sunday would be best, cause some poeple work Saturday. but lets see who wants to come I'm happy sat or sun... need to find a palce to meet that will be on the way for every body.:duh

since it was your idea....lol, make a new thread with all the details.:thumb

64vwmark - January 11th, 2005 at 03:14 PM

Ok sounds good. I'll have a look at the map for a meeting place that should be fairly central.

I'll post a new thread out tonight, stay tuned.........

Time for a nap now

WABaja - January 11th, 2005 at 06:09 PM

Put me down as interested provided it's a Sunday and the start is not too early, coz Saturday nights often finish for me at around 4 or 5am...
I'll talk to Andy (with the Baja ute) he might be keen as well...

There are some good tracks out past Sawyers Valley that we have been to half a dozen times, and there's some great things to see out there with old deserted homesteads, wrecked cars and some awesome tracks and mud pans...

Desert Moose - January 11th, 2005 at 06:14 PM

Cool, Sunday it is then...... 9.30's not to early is it:P
