Hey guys, New years day I did some offroading and broke my acelerator pedal at the hinge.
I have seen a roller pedal set up and was wanting some advice on the best setup you can recommend (on a tight budget tho) any pics would be appreciated too:party

The roller pedal set up is off a oval window beetle till 58 beetle.

I did away with the original pedal in my buggy and fabricated a racing style steel one. It is made out of round bar with cross braces and a VERY substantial pivot and solid mounting (3mm thick) bolted to the floor using 1/4 inch bolts. It also has a flatbar linkage to the accelerator arm that stops any slop in that department. All up, it's a very positive and solid pedal with excellent trottle control and you definately can't break it. It even looks the business. I can supply them for $65.

I've never liked those roller and hinge things so right from the start
I wanted something as simple as possible...
Here's what I did..
Remove the hinge, the roller and anything else to do with it..
Cut about the bottom one third, (doesn't need to be accurate),
OFF the Pedal and bolt the pedal Directly to the shaft
using the bracket that exists on the back of the pedal,
with a locking nut or Nyloc Nut..
Set the pedal in about the right position on the shaft
so that it's not too far back to use, and not too far Forward
so as to hit the heater channel or firewall under Full acceleration,
then Lock the nuts up Tight, and You're away..!!!
I have been using this system for many years
and have only had it come loose once,
despite a Lot of hard off road driving
and the car has been passed the pits for rego like this too...
There is also plenty of foot room there with this system,
I wear size 11 shoes and do not have a problem on the pedals..
Another thing you'll find is that the accelerator is a LOT more resonsive,
due to the fact that you are actually pushing the shaft that holds the cable,
rather than all the B/S that the hinge and roller has to go through...!!!

Notice a weld has been put on the bracket that holds the bolt...
I think this was from the time that it came loose,
but that was So many years ago, I don't rightly remember...
The beauty of doing it like this is that you have about 4 different
spots that you can bolt it to, as the pedal has 2 lugs on the back,
so you can put it on the left or the right and the inside or outside..

I was concerned that bolting something directly to the shaft would flog it out eventually but it seems to work well for you - i might give it a go

I've had No problems with any wear or damage to the shaft...
It wouldn't hurt to put a couple of small welds across the bracket on the back of the pedal (as you see in one of my pics), while you've got it off, but if you can't manage that. it probably won't matter..

I've been through the same sand pits where I broke the original pedal and its coped fine.... great throttle feel and much less resistance..... all in all a great mod I could recomend to anyone! Good one WABaja :beer:beer

I Love it... That looks Great...!!!
You have a lot more room in there than me, as you don't a body lift kit or heater channels, so you could probably put a spacer nut between the pedal and the shaft (on the bolt) to get it a little further over to the right hand side and away from the brake pedal, (if you needed it)..
