BBIIGGG Hela lights, i wan'em but how? (Part 2)
bajachris88 - April 26th, 2005 at 05:38 PM

Hi, i really think that the final touch to a cool 4x4 is a set of big lights, that fit on the roof or roll bar. (my mates got'em on his bug)

But how do I go about it on a GS Limo buggy? (Without getting the soft top in the way?

HELP!

So yeah.

11CAB - April 26th, 2005 at 07:29 PM

I think you'll have trouble fitting them up that high anyway, spot lights are not allowed to be more than 1.4m above the ground.

barls - April 26th, 2005 at 07:30 PM

as 11cab said the adrs do not allow lights that high so its no point putting them there

bajachris88 - April 26th, 2005 at 08:02 PM

:cry ok then.

Im sure there is plenty of locations to put them. I got a whole car body to choose. Perhaps horizontal, pertruding from the sides of the rollbar, (so its legal height). But then the car may be too wide. hmmm.

Gotta think about it. I want them though.

bajachris88 - April 26th, 2005 at 08:03 PM

What about the big 4x4s that have them on top.

Surely thats greater than 1.4 metres.

Is that illegal for them?

phantom - April 26th, 2005 at 09:36 PM

I think you will find that there are a lot of illegal fitments to cars in every state.....it just needs someone to police it and pull them over. Yes, I reckon that if the law says about fitment no higher than 1.4m as was suggested earlier, then they must be illegal, just not picked up yet.

Play it safe, you don't want to attract attention to people who may find more than just the lights wrong with your car. Whack spotties on a bar at the front, etc...it will still shine the way for you.

bigbaja - April 26th, 2005 at 11:17 PM

i,m sure that law has changed
just like the one that says you dont need a roll bar if your seat belt is abouve your shoulder when fitted

might be the same deal as air horns, not legal for use on public roads, but are allowed for shows or private property as long as you have a standard horn aswell, look into it chris, you might be able to do it?

BiX - April 27th, 2005 at 09:31 AM

also light smounted up there, can generate large amounts of glare form the bonnet and bull bar.

Chewy - April 27th, 2005 at 11:18 AM

And you couldn't use them with the top down.. you wouldnt be able to see out the windscreen.

bajachris88 - April 27th, 2005 at 09:31 PM

true. Might just slap them on the front bar. It sux a bit. Even by not putting them on a buggy, and slapping them on a beautifully beefy offroad 4x4 ute would be cool.

But, we just gotta live with it. Yeah, the glare would be pretty high. I will just invest the money I was planning to use on hela lights on interior neons instead.

UNLESS THEY ARE ILLEGAL TOO. I'm gonna be pissed if they are.

bajachris88 - April 27th, 2005 at 09:33 PM

Fancy them cutting your lights on your F100. Dam I luv those big utes, especially the Ford F250. How do they go on offroad?

Sandy - April 28th, 2005 at 09:49 AM

Interior neons? Better off putting the money into better tyres or suspension mods, not useless crap. ;)

bajachris88 - April 28th, 2005 at 05:03 PM

Ah, its not really useless. Its called interior lighting, so you can sorta see what your pressing, or for the passengers to see what they are doing.

And it also looks good, and looks are not useless. Looks shows personality, colour and makes it stand out. When it comes to looks, would your rather be in a shitty looking 1970 ford laser, rusted and gutless (not dissing rats, but I believe old ford lasers suk bigtime), or a beautifully looking modern day sports car (say a Holden avalanche ute or a ford F250 etc etc. or a rice burner)

SO YEAH, i think you would go for the better look. So don't diss'em, cause when your in a situation of lighting, anyone who has taste would choose whateva looks better.

bajachris88 - April 28th, 2005 at 08:10 PM

HELL NO. I'm trying to be creative by doing this. Im trying to strive for individuality.

hence why I want a buggy + i do need so form of interior lighting (ever a plain light bulb or a neon tube).

I don't want some street, run of the mill rice burner that everyone else wants. Being an art student, the strive for individuality, creative thought and originality is my life philosophy.

If i could (legally), to strive for individuality, i would put tank catipillars on my buggy, just for the originality. [but i can't afford to buy it,let alone bribing the inspector to approve it, he he]

Don't worry man, I'm goin the original way, ALL THE WAY. No common commodore for me, no common ford for me, no common jap, plastic car for me. a good old vw in an original, yet immaculate and modern fashion. [My dream is also to shove in a scooby doo engine, if i can scrounge up some money, making my buggy more of an individual.]

Its alright champ, i will make u proud. Wait a couple of years and my pride and joy of originality will be created and will turn heads so far that there neck would break. (not really, of course)

Screw the majority. Like what is said by Living End:

"I wanna be minority, something something majority blah blah"

:blah

bajachris88 - April 28th, 2005 at 08:11 PM

Maybe i should have christmas lights instead of neons.

not that I listen to that angsty teenage crap, but wasn't that a greenday song?

bajachris88 - April 28th, 2005 at 08:36 PM

Probably, quite similar band.

I'm just gessing, its go a kinda Living end rythm/feel in the guitar section. The vocals sound like greenday thou.

MikeM - April 28th, 2005 at 09:51 PM

Yeah, Greenday

boersch - April 28th, 2005 at 09:54 PM

haha yer a crafty one
hooray for post count

MikeM - April 28th, 2005 at 09:54 PM

No Living end

MikeM - April 28th, 2005 at 09:54 PM

On second thoughts, I was right the first time. Greenday.

Boozer - April 28th, 2005 at 11:48 PM

Neons: No F**king Way. i can understand it on a street dub but on an offroad beast, nah uh. People will laugh at you like that "Pimp my peice of shit" baja. lava lamps *shudders*

Massive spotties: Nice to have but like a stereo, there's better and more important things to spend money on. My spotties are small ones from SuperCheap at a $100 and work well.

Prioritys (in my opinion): Motor, running gear, suspension, tyres, body mods, brakes, and that's all I can think of at the moment.

And as I once said: "Blah blah blah, blahblah blah blah, blah blah.:duh

check out my setup in this thread:

http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=37970

on the front bumper the two outer lights are the driving lights I have to suplement the Halogen sealed beams in the guards. Work good for 98% of driving, around town and so on. In the middle half covered by the liscence plate ziptied on is the spotties I mentioned. I've only used them on backroad, and out bush, in country and work real well. But they only get used evey now and then. You could get away with not having them till you've got everything else you want sorted out.

My next one i'm gonna set up with halo sealed beams mounted in the guards/on a bracket behind guards, dunno which yet and two aircraft landing lights mounted into nacelles in the bonnet, with some big spotties on the bumper. Should work real good I reckon.

Don't be a smart arse

bajachris88 - April 30th, 2005 at 03:41 PM

Well, instead of having big hela lights, if i had a baja instead of a buggy, could i place another set of the same head lights on the roof, instead of Hela ones.

Like this baja?:

bajachris88 - April 30th, 2005 at 03:43 PM

yeah, ur right. Interior neons on a buggy or any offroad would look shit.
