Looking for expressions of intrest from Perth guys for a camping trip in the buggies/bajas...
Intitial thoughts would be for 2 nights, 3 days, gravel roads and bush tracks, tent camping at either bush land or caravan park tent sites..
You'de need a registered roadworthy car.. It would be best for it to have gotten a full service before departure..
You'de need to be able to carry on board, your own fuel, (suggested 2 x 20 litre jerry cans), drinking water, food, 2 spare wheels, recovery
equipment, tools, camping gear such as tent, sleeping bag, change of clothes, cooking equipment, first aid kit ect...
No date is set as yet but hopefully it can be organised to happen some time within the next 6 to 8 weeks...
Depending on work scheduals for participants it can be taken over a weekend, but during the week is preferable...
Possible Destinations:
I have had similar runs in the past, in one run we departed Perth, camped over night at Wedge Point first night, Geraldton caravan park second,
Kalbarri third, Geraldton fourth, then back to Perth..
That run involved a Lot of beach and dune driving which can be hard on your clutch when the car is fully loaded..
Second run was Perth to Northam first, second night camped in Mukinbudin,
( http://www.mukinbudin.wa.gov.au/ ),
third night camped in bushland near Mount Jackson,
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=13250000.
then the run through Koolyanobbing, Southern Cross, Merriden, Northam and back home, all in the final day...
Another trip was camping over night in Margaret River, then Augusta then back up through Armadale...
It's Great fun, but you need to enjoy driving and getting out in to the country side and enjoying the place (with a reliable car)...
If any Perth guys are interested, make a mention and you can be in on the planning if you wish...
It would be nice to look at this run as a prelude to the Wolfsberg to Wolf Creek Baja & Buggy run, which I hope to put together one day in the not too
distant future...
Looking forward to hearing from interested VeeDubbers....

interested ? YES
What sort of time frame are you thinking about? What I mean is will I use my new car or one of the Baja’s. I would like a good 6 to 8 months at
least for the planing, but that leaves it in the middle of summer.
This sure sounds like a lot of fun and we would be happy to help out.

Moose I would like to make it happen in the next 6 to 8 Weeks...
It's not going to be a life altering experience, just a few days away...
The big run to Wolf Creek will be some time off yet...

Hey guys
SOrry, Ive had the dreaded "my car is off the road" quiets lately. I have been lookin at all your trips and stuff and have decided to fix my
gearbox so I can have some fun. This is the sort of thing I got my baja for.
I would be interested but I have to either get another gearbox or fix the mainshaft bearing in mine. Not sure how long it will take to sort out.
But I am keen.
Jamie
Ahhh Jimbo....
Now there's a thought, maybe we could make the run down south and hook up with Jamie at Dumble...??
What gearbox are you running Jamie, IRS or swing..???
p.s I know you're going to be too busy crotching sheep or doing fence lines on the farm to come with us....
"Ah yes" indeed Danny
Kombi 3-rib. Just put the hooer in, backed him out of the shed and
mainshaft bearing sounds like no-go. Goh. Have you had any experience with mainshaft bearings? Do I get a new bearing, or gearbox? My poor car.
Yeh, well at the moment I am studying for exams but I get them out of the way in a couple of weeks and then I just say how hard ive been workign and
stressing out and Dad says, "Ok, go make some freinds and have fun". I should be able to work into almost any arrangements that are made. I mean,
there is always the CHANCE that I won't be able to go but if my car is going, I am going too. Oh bugger, but I am playing hockey so if it is finals
or something I might have to meet you guys after it, but that wouldn't matter. I'm goalie so I can't just leave them in the lurch. Also, as a
point of interest this year we have had the first Dumbleyung Men's Hockey team since 1936 or somehting like that. Cool huh?
There is the south coast as an option, but if you don't jag fine weather...its the south coast. We have actually had HEAPS of rain down here in the
Greath Southern and LAKE DUMBLEYUNG has got loads of water in it -and it is a BIG lake, 13kms long or something -"quite lovely" as a grannie would
say. It would make a nice stopover for a night to camp out there, but then where do you go? If it was on the way to somewhere else...?
Hmm, yeh. I'm workin on it, but after exams. I am getting excited which is always a good thing for motivation.

Jamie
Jamie.... I have a kombi for sale with a suitable gaerbox... Talk your old man in to coming up to town for supplies, and you can pick it up while you're here....
Gday Danny
camping trip sounds like a fine idea. it would be easier for me if it was a weekend mission, or say friday to monday so i can swing time off work.
keep me posted on developments
cheers
Col
Looks like it's gunna be a weekend...
Who wants to have input in to where we are going...??
Down south is great at this time of year, just a little cold at nights...
Dumbleyung has some Great History....!!!

great southern region sounds nice. I have been for a couple of camping missions down to the walpole-denmark-albany region now and i must say it is
quite spectacular. I never thought i would see vegetation like that in sunburnt WA.
haven't been to dumbleyung though, so something new is kool.
i am also keen to go anywhere near the coast
col
Jamie can show us his favourite tracks....:bounce
happy :thumb
Hey Dan; are you talking a WHOLE kombi? Licenced? Not sure how I would go with that. Do you know anyone with a good 3-rib for sale?
Now, as far as "tracks" go -I don't have any! The off-roading I do is mainly on south-coastal beach etc. Around here, there aren't any tracks
so to speak. i just slide around gravel corners etc for fun. Plus, it is VERY wet around here so it makes a mess of anything you drive on which
people aren't so happy about.
So, I don't actually want any say in where we go. I just want to tag
along. I thought if you were passing through on your way to the South, the Lake would make a nice stopover for a night (eg Thursday or Friday night)
and then on to wherever.
Even then, I haven't been on any runs so I don't know what you guys expect. I think I would rather go on one and see what actually happens before I
get involved in planning them. TOO much pressure! Is that ok?
I need to meet you all first and get comfortable in the gang.
So, to sum-up: if you are actually going to go down south, you could detour through Dumbleyung and camp at the lake overnight to break up a long
drive. I would be happy to give details and meet you all there and then follow where you lead. ?? Yeh?
Rightio, i gotta study for exams, but I'll check back.

Jamie
I knew there was something I wanted to talk to you about last night Moose...
Jamie, we haven't got anything in place yet, but we will include you in what ever gets put together...
Wouldn't mind hearing from MarkMark when he gets back, as I'm pretty sure he will be in it, if we can fit it in with his schedual...
Whats wrong with it Jamie.......(the box that is) I maybe able to help
and can you still get near the old tip that we raced on ?
or what I was thinking is Harvey/ Bunbury area which is about the same distance from dumbleyung as it is from Perth. this area has heaps of places and
tracks plus cheap acommodation if it rains to much (bridgetown was about $30 a head for a challet) but there is heaps of places to pich a tent and I
can tell you, I have been down there many many times and still haven't done all the tracks. You can do hard core stuff or dirt roads (muddy) , what
ever you wont. plus its not that far to go to the beach if you want to have a fish or play in the sand
Anyway just ideas
I'm back!!
Yes I would love to come along. I'll be home for the next two weeks from now.......
I do have one thing planned though, I'm going to see Herbie Fully Loaded on June 19 (free tickets) with the VW club.
Any time apart from 19th June is ok for me over the next 2 weeks.
Otherwise I'll be back home again 6 July to 19th July.
Sounds good

Maybe we could check out the off road racing this month then go away in July??
It would give us more of a chance to get organised, what do you think?
Are you sure the racing is on 9 & 10th June? That's a Thursday and Friday. Wouldn't it be 11th and 12th June???
Moose, there is a real rough bearing noise but when I put the clutch in it stops. This happens at idle and in gear. I was told it is the mainshaft
bearing from the description but also some other bearings too. I think it
is very bad news. Was going to get a recon but I don't think it is worth it for the value of the car.
I like the sound of the west coast Bunbury idea. Sounds excellent. I would also prefer the July trip. As far as the off-road rally in Dyg, I spose
you know they called it quits. Most of the track is on private property and underwater at the moment. I never did the whole track but I think the
tip is just the town tip so you can go there, but all around it is very wet. More rain on the way too.
Can't wait for the trip, sounds good.
Sounds like thrust bearing...??
Easy job if it is... Just gotta pull the motor back..
30 minutes work in a baja..
So what is the plan?
I think we need to make a decision soon so that we can make all the necessary arrangements now so that this DOES happen. I think that this will be a
great trip but I'm sure we all have a number of things to organise first.
So where do we want to go?
Maybe we could get together (on the weekend?) to discuss how we are going to organise it. To make our load lighter we could share resources ie. one
person take the tools/spares etc, one person take a tent bla bla bla
What do you think?
