Advice needed
DubCrazy - September 18th, 2005 at 08:26 PM

Just had a mate ask a couple of question and i am hoping you's lot can help him out... he wants to build a baja kombi.

First question............ are they any good on sand as most of the time he will be on the local island and its mainly sand with the odd dirt track which brings me to the second question, on the rutted out non graded roads now do they fair? its all hard compacted stuff no lose or sticky mud to deal with..

Next... which would be better a crew cab or a normal kombi? would it make a difference or not? as he would prefer a crew cab as he could load the moto bikes in the back rather than drag a trailer.

Now engines, he would only be intrested in having a vw donk or may be a non turbo scooby donk... He's not intrested in speed just a good strong runner that will carry him and the tribe on the island with out to may dramas..

what do u think???? any pointers i can give him as he really wants to start the project and he loves vw's but needs a kombi for the size, beetle or buggy to small..

Oh cost is one thing he would like an idea of... eg,engine conversion, lift kit etc etc

cheers people

Man, custom offroad are the people to talk to. $8.8K for an EJ22 conversion. Jack it up and away you go.

BTW, there was a Lexus V8 powered baja crewcab for sale on here a while back. It was even in Qld. Might be worth looking for that. I think it was owned by someone in Bad Little Buggers?

Steff,
There was a business in Bris specialising in "Baja Kombies" as well as Custom Offroad. They had a webpage....... possibly links from the Bad Little Buggers site or Mick Motors. They had photos and details of Baja Kombies they had done including some shots of Kombies jumping over dunes.
Seems there is nothing you can't do in a Kombi....Gordon from North Rocky Mechanical competes in Rallysprints in his ej22 powered Dualcab!!!!!! He usually finishes ahead of some of the Rally Cars!!!

Karmen... thxs but no good, he needs a kombi as he has 3 kids and wife.... other wise he would be building a baja or buggy.... and the reason he would like to do it to the duel cab is he can put his motorvross bikes in teh back.. that one would eb pushed to fit a pw 50 never mind a KTM... thxs anyhows
