BUGGY TYRE SIZES ??
rupsta - September 20th, 2005 at 04:16 PM

Now got a sporty re-built 1600 kombi box in the buggy project. With regards to gearing any tips on tyre sizes that can be comfortably used ?? Was thinking 31" but wondering if 33"or even 35" was possible ??

Cheers:beer

i wouldnt bother going bigger than 31's u should get decent ratios with that. combo. plus the bigger u go the more attention u get from the boys in blue and i beleive 31's are the legal limit on a bug.

wouldnt bigger also reduce top speed? I would be interested to know what kind of speed is achievable with each size?

Larger will theoretically increase top speed as it raises the final gearing (larger rolling diameter), if your engine can pull it or not is another matter.

What speed is achievable with each size is dependant on your transmission and diff gear ratios.

You shouldn't worry about top speed, (remember you can only go as fast as the speed limit), but more what tyre size and diff ratio work well together so it gives good acceleration but doesn't over-rev on the highway.
I also wouldn't go bigger than 31's.nn[ Edited on 20/9/2005 by Sandy ]

30,s or 31,s

no bigger

i,d go 30.5 9r,s

best bet is getting 2 30,s and 2 31.s second hand and try them both
before you buy new
just ask if you can borrow them
then shop around for the best price
you,d be amazed at how stupid they are and how much bullshit they feed you about cost
