hi all
i was jus wondering is gelcoat easy to sand off a fibreglass rat? i was interested in spraying the car in a 2pack paint
Hi Bugsy,
you dont really want to rub the gelcoat OFF.you can rub it down but if you go too far bits of fibre will start poking through.Thats the purpose of
the gelcoat to give it a smooth finish. If it has already been painted just rub the paint down with say 400 and finish off with 600-800 (wet)You want
to rub the shine off.give it a rub,dry it off an see where is still shiny and give it another rub.
ps whats a rat?
After you've given it a rub down(as above) you will need to dewax it.Acetone will do the job...just wipe it down with acetone on a rag(wear gloves) and it should be right to go.
Rat is a breed of buggy (I have one) They ugly!!----but they still a buggy!!
the classic fiberglass resin was that funky blue colour that dried clearish. gelcoat is the resen that already has the tint ( call it paint if you
want) added for the colour. think of it as armour paint, if you scratch gelcoat it will still be the buggys colour in the bottom of the groove.
Peptone is a pretty fullon solvent good for cleaning down. how handy are you... skuff it up and apply a new coat of gellcoat
??
cheers

haha jeeze thanx fellas now i definitely kno i cant do it on my own. if i got a panelbeater to do it is there a possibility he could change the colour? my girlfriend wants it pink an i wanna keep it blue so i thought id meet her halfway, literally. do it in a two tone pink an blue it'll look weird as hell but i dun wanna lose my whole blue
Lol 2 tone. if you rub it back you can just use fiberglass paint and do what you want( not gelcoat).
blue and pink 2 tone ... only if the blue half is the right hand half ( the side with the steering wheel).
cheers Dub
haha u got it exactly right dub buggier theres no way im gonna be drivin a pink car!
